A woman in a white sari with a gold-bordered edge and a purple blouse bends low on a dirt courtyard, drawing a white rangoli-style lotus design with her right hand while holding a metal plate of white powder in her left. A circular raised stone planter with a banyan-type tree stands behind her, and a paved path runs along the left edge.

A photograph of a ground-level kolam on bare earth, a Pongal-season floor design of geometric and floral motifs drawn in white powder and filled with bright coloured powders in purple, green, orange, red, blue and yellow. A young girl in a white blouse and white skirt with a long plaited braid kneels at the right, using a small clay bowl to add colour. Behind, another woman in white with an orange-bordered sari sits near a wooden stick and brick pieces, and a boy in a brown shirt stands at the upper right edge by a wooden post.

A close photograph of a hand drawing a white rangoli kolam on a grey concrete ground. The hand, with dark skin, wears gold bangles and a gold ring set with a pearl, and holds a small cluster of purple flower petals or buds placed at the centre of a symmetrical lotus-petal pattern. The white powder design radiates outward with petal and loop motifs. No other people are visible.

A young girl with a long braid and glasses sits cross-legged on a concrete floor, drawing a white kolam rangoli with her right hand. She wears a pink and white floral-print kurta over white trousers, with a gold bangle on her wrist. Sunlight falls across the floor from an open doorway, and a terracotta pot sits at the top edge of the frame. No a person candidate is visible.

A woman in a yellow and white floral salwar kameez crouches on a concrete ground, drawing a large white kolam rangoli with rice flour. The intricate circular design has radiating petals and loops, dotted at the centre with red and orange flower petals or kumkum. Two people stand behind her: one in white churidar and kurta with bare feet, and another in a white dhoti with red border, also barefoot.

Photograph of a covered hall with a large white chalk kolam rangoli floral mandala on the bare ground in the foreground. Several women in white saris with coloured borders walk and sit around the hall, one woman in a white sari with a red-bordered saree and a lanyard badge carries a plate; a man in a striped shirt and dark trousers stands at right beside a woman in a cream sari with a red-and-gold border. A woman in a yellow-blue outfit and children stand near the centre, while a woman seated on the floor works on another kolam. Orange and white decorative banners hang along the pillars, and a water bottle sits on the ground. Lit by sunlight through the hall.

A young girl with a dark ponytail, wearing a purple collared top and brown leggings, sits cross-legged on a concrete floor drawing a kolam-style floor design with coloured powder. The white and blue-green lines form a central flower with spiral petals and small orange dots at the edges. A cup of blue-green powder sits at the right edge, and a person in orange clothing's bare feet appear at the bottom right corner.
