Many people sit on mats holding lit oil lamps and small diyas aloft, flames glowing warmly in the dim room. Most wear white dhotis and shawls, with some in yellow and orange garments. In the foreground, shaven-headed men in white with orange waist cloths raise lamps toward the camera. Brass plates, a small kalasha and a bowl sit on the floor before them. The setting suggests a pada puja or group aarti offering.2011-01-23A photograph of many young men seated cross-legged in rows on mats and a tiled floor, dressed in white dhotis and white shirts with red-bordered shawls and rudraksha malas. Many hold lit oil lamps or small flames, and brass plates with flowers, fruit and offerings sit before them. A few seated men lean forward to tend the plates, and a bald man in the centre tends a lamp on a brass plate.2010-12-27A crowded indoor hall during a ritual where seated participants hold lit oil lamps with flames raised toward the camera, with smoke drifting in the warm light. Several men in white dhotis and white shawls, some with rudraksha malas and some bare-chested, sit on the floor with plates of offerings and small bowls nearby. Behind them rows of seated people, including children in colourful shirts and women in saris and kurtas, fill the room. Red curtains and a patterned wall hang in the background. No figure can be clearly identified as a person from appearance cues, so the central figures are described by their roles as ritual participants.2011-01-21Large indoor hall with a polished white marble floor where a crowd of seated devotees sits in rows performing a group ritual with small oil lamps (diyas) lit in their hands. Most men wear white dhoti-style garments with reddish-brown borders and some wear white shirts and light scarves. A few men on the left wear saffron-orange robes and a shaved head. Brass plates with flowers, turmeric and offerings lie on mats in front of them, along with brass lamps and pink and green bowls. Women in white and colourful saris sit farther back, and orange and gold drapes hang from the ceiling. A deity murti is visible at the far right near the back wall. A laptop and cables are on the floor at the right edge.2010-09-17November 20 20102010-11-20A large seated gathering of devotees performs a lamp ritual inside a hall. Many men in front wear white dhoti-style cloth with red-striped borders and rudraksha malas around their necks. Several hold up lit oil lamps or diyas, with flames visible in multiple hands, and brass plates with offerings sit on mats in front. Behind them, women in white and coloured saris and salwar kameez sit in rows, also holding small lamps. The lighting is warm and dim, with glowing flames throughout the room, and the atmosphere suggests a collective puja or aarti.2010-12-28November 12 20102010-11-12A photograph of a large indoor hall where many men in white dhotis with maroon-and-gold borders sit cross-legged in long rows on the floor, holding small oil lamps aloft in both hands. Each seated participant has a brass plate with offerings, flowers and small items on a mat in front of them. Behind them, women in white and coloured saris sit in the background, and a few people in saffron-orange clothing stand near the back wall.
