Behind them, rows of small oil lamps line a red tiered platform, and a string of multicoloured lights hangs in the dark. Several people in white clothing sit on the ground, and a few figures in saffron/orange robes stand nearby. A colourful rangoli design is visible on the floor.2015-11-25A photograph at dusk of a courtyard lined with many tall brass lamp stands (nilavilakku) with flickering oil lamps, some with rooster-topped finials, arranged on a patterned floor with kolam-style designs. Several people in white clothing sit and stand in the background near the shrine, and a red-and-white pillar with a lamp-lit top rises at right. Colourful kolam chalk designs are on the ground, and strings of lights hang in the trees.2015-11-25A row of tall polished brass oil lamps (vilakku) with peacock-headed finials and flared bowls stands in a shallow receding line, the closest lamp in sharp focus. No people are visible.2011-09-28Close-up photograph of two ornate brass oil lamps (deepams) with bird-shaped tops. Small flames burn from the wicks in the lamp bowls. A row of small lit oil lamps runs up a dark wall in the background, and at right a gilded altar frame is decorated with garlands of marigolds and other flowers. No people are visible. The dim setting and warm light suggest a temple worship area.2011-12-11July 16 20152015-07-16Brass oil lamps with rooster-shaped finials stand in the foreground on a dark stage, several with small flames burning in their cups.
