His hands are pressed together in prayer at his forehead and a rudraksha mala hangs around his neck. Behind him, a crowd of men in white dhotis and white shirts stands barefoot along the edge of the trench, several wearing lanyard badges and beaded malas. A man at right holds a large drum, and a man at left wears an orange shawl. White dotted markers line the pit's edges, and the sandy ground surrounds the scene.2005-12-31Night photograph of a fire-walking ritual at a temple event. Two men in white dhotis and orange shawls walk across a dark bed of glowing embers, one in the foreground with a cloth draped over his shoulder. Behind them, a crowd of men in white clothes, some wearing necklaces, watches beside a wooden barrier, and a lit ceremonial structure appears at the top right. Ash-covered ground and a raised earthen edge frame the path.2006-12-30Night photograph of a fire-walking ritual in a shallow earthen pit filled with glowing-dark embers and white ash. A long-haired man in an orange saffron shawl and a rudraksha mala stands barefoot at the pit's edge, holding a marigold garland, with a second man in orange wrap beside him. Behind them, a crowd of devotees in white dhotis and kurtas stands and sits behind wooden bamboo barriers, and a lit illuminated palanquin or deity shrine is visible above the crowd under a light. A man in a grey jacket stands at right. Strands of dark charred fibre cover the embers. The orange-shawled figure has distinctive long hair, saffron clothing and a mala, so the appearance-based candidate is Swamiji (probable) performing fire-walking with disciples; the page's Swamiji flag is consistent with this, so the label is probable rather than certain.2006-12-30Night photo of a fire-walking ritual at an outdoor temple site. A long pit of glowing embers and ash lies in the foreground. A man with long, dark, swept-back hair wears an orange saffron wrap and a rudraksha mala and walks barefoot across the coals. Behind him, people in white dhotis and kurtas, some with orange shawls and white forehead markings, watch from behind wooden rails. A lit, decorated palanquin or deity shrine with a kalasha-like top is visible in the background under a light. A bright floral garland with yellow and pink flowers is held by a man at left. The scene is a fire-walking ritual associated with the temple celebrations.2006-12-30Night photograph of a fire-walking ritual on a dirt ground. A long trench of glowing embers and ash runs through the centre, and a barefoot woman with long dark hair, wearing a red shawl over a white dhoti-style cloth, is walking across it. Devotees in white dhotis and shirts line both sides holding long wooden poles that form barriers along the trench. Behind them a large crowd of men and women, many in white or saffron, stands watching, and a dark ceremonial structure is visible at the top.2006-12-30December 30 20072007-12-30January 03 20182018-01-03A photograph of a fire walking ritual at an outdoor pit lined with ash and glowing embers. In the foreground a young man in white shirt and white dhoti, with a red-bordered cloth, steps barefoot onto the dark ash-covered trench. Along the earthen edge behind him, a row of men in white shirts and white dhotis, some wearing lanyards and rudraksha malas, watch closely with bare feet on the dirt. A man on the left wears a red-and-gold shawl over white clothes. At right, an older man with a bare chest and orange-bordered dhoti holds a ceremonial rod, and a figure in white holds a brass pot. A corrugated roof and palm trees appear in the background.2005-12-31
