Overhead view of a clay pot of milk boiling over a small wood fire on bare earth, set on three red bricks marked with kumkum and white lines. A wooden stick is being stirred in the pot by a hand entering from the upper right. A person's foot wearing a white garment with a yellow border and red-painted toenails stands at the right edge. Scattered twigs, pebbles and a small piece of paper lie on the ground. No identifiable face is visible.2006-12-31January 15 20112011-01-15A clay pot of milk boils over a small open fire on bare ground, with foam rising above the rim of the pot and steam drifting upward. The pot rests on stacked yellow-orange bricks stained with turmeric and kumkum, with dry twigs and ash scattered around the fire. Part of a pair of bare feet and the edge of a pink garment appear at the top left. This is a Pongal-style milk boiling offering, consistent with the Mattu Pongal celebration. No people are visible in the scene except partially cropped feet, and no a person candidate appears in the image.2019-01-16January 15 20182018-01-15A large reddish-brown clay pot sits on a stack of bricks over a small wood fire on a paved outdoor courtyard, with smoke rising from its mouth. Bamboo or sugarcane poles lean in from the frame edges, and a person wearing white clothing with a gold-and-brown patterned border stands partly visible at the left, their bare foot showing. Faint blue-and-white kolam or rangoli powder designs decorate the pavement near the fire.2013-01-14Two clay pots sit on a wood fire built on brick supports outdoors, boiling rice and milk for Pongal. The pot on the left holds cooked rice being stirred with a long metal ladle held by a hand in purple at the top left. The pot on the right holds white milk with a metal ladle standing in it, and steam rises from both. Red-brick stoves with embossed markings surround the fire, with dry sticks and ash on the sandy ground. Only partial hands are visible at the edges, and no full person is shown.2008-01-16A photograph of Pongal cooking outdoors. Two clay pots sit on stacked red brick stoves over the ground, with white foam or milk boiling over the rim of the nearer pot and steam rising from the second. A person in white trousers squats at the right, bare feet visible, wearing a gold bangle and tending the second pot. Behind them a woman in a yellow and orange patterned sari stands at the left. Scattered red kumkum and dry leaves lie near the bricks, and the dusty ground is in full daylight.2006-12-31January 15 20162016-01-15December 31 20062006-12-31A photograph of women cooking outdoors at a dirt ground beside a red and white striped wall. Several clay pots sit on small brick stoves with burning wood and flames, and smoke rises at left. A woman in a white sari with a yellow border kneels at right, feeding sticks into a fire. Another woman in white stirs a pot with a ladle, and a few more women in white clothing stand or bend among rows of brick hearths. The scene suggests a traditional communal cooking ritual. No a person candidate is visible.2005-12-31January 15 20162016-01-15January 15 20162016-01-15
