The person has long dark hair knotted on top, a white horizontal tilak on the forehead, and a dark wristband, and rests one hand on the lingam. Yellow triangular pennant flags and overhead power lines are visible against a clear blue sky, with a blue-and-white logo in the upper left corner.2007-02-02Outdoor photograph at a riverside-style festival site under a leafy tree. In the foreground, a man in orange robes with rudraksha malas and white forehead markings sits on a white cloth, one hand resting on a large dark grey shivalinga draped with a pink and white flower garland. To the right, a second performer with a tiger-striped cloth, blue dhoti, painted face, black hair, large earrings and a golden trident stands beside the lingam. Helmeted police or security personnel are visible at left among onlookers, and yellow bunting and umbrellas line the background. Shown in the scene: a shivalinga ritual with flower offerings. Two people are visible, and no legible name appears in the image.2007-02-02A young person stands in a gilded temple hall, dressed in ceremonial Shaivite attire: rudraksha malas across the chest and arms, a heavy gold necklace with a pendant, an orange shawl over a leopard-print cloth, and a white-and-red tripundra on the forehead. The figure holds a silver ceremonial staff with a trident-like finial in one hand and a small silver vessel in the other. Behind them, tall brass oil lamps line the foreground, and a blurred crowd of seated devotees, several in white and red, fills the background. He grips a thick rope with both hands, pulling it upward as part of a flag-hoisting ritual (dwajarohanam) at a temple festival, with palm trees and blue sky in the background. Probable Swamiji by appearance cues: long swept-back hair, saffron robes, garlands and mala beads. He is performing dwajarohanam, the flag-hoisting that marks the start of Brahmotsavam.2016-01-11 +1 copiesPhotograph of a shaved-to-long-hair disciple-style group in saffron/orange cloth at an ashram ritual. In the foreground a bare-chested young man with long matted hair, white tripundra on the forehead, rudraksha malas and a pendant wears an orange wrap and holds a pile of yellow flower petals in both hands. A second young man beside him, also bare-chested with long hair and a rudraksha mala, holds yellow flowers. Behind them many other people in orange cloth bend forward, offering flowers, and a gilded lattice panel stands at right. The scene suggests a pushpa puja or flower offering.2017-07-03 +1 copiesA young boy performs in a crowd of people dressed in saffron-orange robes and turbans. He wears an orange turban with a peacock feather tucked into it, a red tilak and white markings on his forehead, and multiple strands of brown rudraksha beads across his bare chest, with an orange shawl draped over his shoulders. He raises one hand mid-gesture as he dances or sings. Behind him, many adults in orange garments move in the celebration. A long-haired man in saffron-orange robes, with a tilak on his forehead, white painted markings on his arms and a rudraksha mala around his neck, leans forward to press both hands onto the dark stone lingam while bathing or anointing it. Pink flower petals lie in the basin, and a few onlookers in white and yellow shirts stand or sit behind him in the shade.2004-07-02A photograph of a ceremonial rite at an outdoor pavilion. A man with long dark hair and a short beard, wearing a rust-red wrap and a pink-and-white flower garland with gold ornaments, holds a pink flower bunch up beside a white cloth-wrapped pole. Behind him, a crowd of devotees in saffron and orange robes stands, some with orange head cloths. A man at the right in a brown wrap and beaded necklaces holds a silver tray with small vessels. A tassel-decorated canopy is visible above. Whether the central figure is a person cannot be confirmed from appearance, so the role is described as a participant in the rite.2017-10-01March 17 20132013-03-17August 14 20172017-08-14
