A photograph of a wooden boat with a thatched or canvas canopy carrying a group of about fifteen people, mostly women in colourful saris and salwar kameez in yellow, pink, green, blue and orange, sitting close together under the shade. The boat moves across a wide, muddy-brown river. Beyond a pale sandbank, a line of trees and a few low buildings sit along the far bank under a hazy sky.

Several wooden boats are moored or drifting, one long boat carries a row of seated passengers, and small figures wade and bathe in the shallow water on the right. Distant trees fade into morning mist. Tents or cloth canopies are visible on the sand at left. Figures are too small and distant to identify roles or clothing precisely; the scene reads as a riverside ghat gathering in Varanasi.2015-10-02May 01 20142014-05-01A covered wooden boat with a tarpaulin roof carries a group of about fifteen people across a wide river in hazy light.
