A central figure with a tall, swept-back dark hairstyle wears a rust-red garment and a red floral garland with a gold-tipped rudraksha mala, holding a small lamp with a visible flame near a tall sugarcane stalk. Several sugarcane stalks stand upright around him, and clay pots sit on the ground. Behind him, men in orange and maroon dhotis and shawls stand in the ritual space, with an ornate gold-trimmed seat and parasols visible in the background. Colourful floor rangoli and mats cover the ground. The scene suggests a Pongal harvest ritual with sugarcane and lamps.2016-01-15Outdoor Makara Sankranti ritual on a paved courtyard in sunlight. Several sannyasis in saffron-orange robes stand at left; the foreground priest, bare-chested with a rudraksha-style bead mala, raises a brass vessel and bell over a small fire. Upright sugarcane stalks with green leaves are tied in a tripod and frame the scene. Brass pots and copper vessels rest on a patterned cloth, with a pile of straw or kindling and a fire pit with turmeric-yellow powder. A dark stone Nandi-like bull sculpture and a golden ornamental canopy stand behind. At right, a seated deity murti or portrait is garlanded and set on a red cushioned throne with a gold-edged yellow cloth. Other sannyasis play drums in the background.2020-01-15Close photograph of brass plates set on a white cloth. In the foreground a brass bowl holds a bunch of yellow bananas with green stems and some dark spots. Behind it a larger brass tray holds several dry, husked brown coconuts. Small brass dishes sit at the right edge. No people are visible; the arrangement suggests ritual offerings laid out for a ceremony.2010-10-13Close photograph of a dark clay pot set on a brick hearth over a flame at a Pongal cooking ritual. The pot has a wrapped banana-leaf collar and a reddish mark on its side. Sugarcane stalks stand on either side of the pot. Blurred orange-robed figures stand in the background.2016-01-15August 16 20162016-08-16Outdoor ritual offering on a brown earthen ground decorated with white kolam lines. A round stainless steel plate holds bananas, cooked rice, jaggery pieces and white flour or powder. Banana leaves with rice portions and halved coconuts sit at the top, and a whole coconut lies to the left. A small brass oil lamp with a bright flame burns in the lower left, beside a brass bell and incense sticks at the lower right. No people are visible.2006-01-15 +1 copiesOctober 18 20152015-10-18January 15 20162016-01-15Close view of a brass puja table set with a brass plate of yellow marigold flowers and red petals, a small framed portrait photograph standing upright on the right, a brass tumbler and lamp in the background, and folded red-and-white cloth.
