A close photo of a ritual arati with a brass oil lamp held in a hand at left, its flame bright and smoky. Behind it a deity murti or sacred object is draped in a white cloth with red and gold borders and decorated with white jasmine garlands, pink and yellow flowers, green leaves and a rudraksha mala. Offerings of leaves and flowers rest in front, with a small round yellow object visible on the figure. No clearly identifiable person's face is shown; only hands and the draped form appear.2012-05-18A photograph of a ritual at night showing a large flame rising from a brass vessel or lamp placed in front of a figure draped in white, red and green cloth. The figure's head and shoulders are covered with garlands of white flowers, marigolds and green leaves. A bare arm with a bangle reaches toward the flame. A hanging brass oil lamp with a lit wick and a second lamp glow in the background against a grey stone wall. The scene suggests a homa or fire ritual, though only the flame, offerings and garlanded figure are clearly visible. The figure's face is not visible, so no identification is made.2012-05-18A photograph of a ritual at a stone shrine: a priest in an orange-saffron cloth and bare arm holds a brass multi-wick oil lamp with several burning flames in front of a dark black stone deity murti (Shiva linga-form) dressed with an orange cloth, a white shawl, a garland of white flowers and a red flower. The priest's hand is raised near the lamp flames, and the dark stone shrine walls with a small offering tray are visible, consistent with an aarti or puja. Only the priest's arm and part of his body are visible; no face is shown.2012-05-18 +1 copiesClose photo of a ceremonial offering: a flame burns on a leaf-lined tray held by a hand at lower left, in front of a seated figure draped in a white and red-bordered shawl with a gold-patterned edge. The figure wears white and pink flower garlands and a dark bead mala across the chest. Yellow and pink flowers decorate the background, and a dark cloth with orange circular motifs sits behind. The scene suggests aarti or an offering with camphor-like flame; no person's face is visible and no appearance-based candidate is clearly identifiable.2012-05-18May 18 20122012-05-18May 18 20122012-05-18 +1 copiesA ritual fire ceremony at dusk. A person in an orange-yellow garment reaches toward a brass lamp with a large flame, beside a homa-style fire pit built of stacked red bricks. Flower garlands in red, yellow, white and purple drape a folded textile and a golden ornamental frame. Brass vessels with lids, a small oil lamp, bananas, mangoes and other fruit sit on a striped woven mat. Behind the altar stands a figure in saffron-coloured cloth beside a golden decorative arch, and a partially visible deity murti.2016-03-06 +1 copiesA close photo of a dark stone Shiva lingam decorated with a red kumkum mark and a sprig of green leaves on top, being worshipped with a flaming lamp. A hand holds a brass aarti lamp with a long curved handle, its flame rising beside the lingam. Behind it hang layered garlands of yellow, orange, red, white and green flowers, and a figure in red silk and gold ornaments stands in the background. This appears to be an abhishekam or puja offering to a Shiva lingam. No people are fully visible apart from the hand holding the lamp.2016-03-07Close photo of a hand raising a brass aarti lamp with a large flame and rising smoke, held against a plain pink-beige wall. To the left, a gold-toned deity murti face is partly visible; to the right, garlands of red, orange and white flowers hang beside the lamp. Only a forearm and hand are visible, so no full person is shown.2018-04-21April 14 20182018-04-14 +1 copiesJune 23 20172017-06-23 +1 copiesJuly 20 20102010-07-20
