April 29 20182018-04-29Night photo on a crowded beach at Rameshwaram, with a dense crowd of devotees and bright street lights along the shore. In the foreground, a group of saffron- and white-clad sadhus and ritual attendants walk in procession. One man at centre holds his palms together in anjali, wearing a brown-red garment, rudraksha mala and a tall matted topknot-style headdress. Beside him, a man carries a long staff and wears an orange lower cloth. At far right, a blurred figure in dark clothing and beads is close to the lens. A few people wear white dhotis and carry metal ritual items. Several participants wear rudraksha malas across their chests.2018-04-29Night photograph of a crowd of sadhus and devotees moving forward on a beach or open ground with bright lights behind them. In the centre, a bare-chested man in a dark wrap and a large dark turban-like head covering holds up his hand near his face. Beside him stands a tall trident, a ceremonial staff with a metal trident head, carried upright. Around them, men wear orange, saffron and ochre cloths, white dhotis, rudraksha-style beaded necklaces and long matted or braided hair. A man on the right wears a yellow shawl over a white dhoti. The motion blur suggests a procession or ritual walk. No readable identifying text is visible on the figures.2018-04-29April 29 20182018-04-29 +1 copiesNight procession on an open dirt ground lit by strings of coloured lights.
