April 2008 - Kailaasa In LA Events

A seated man in an orange-saffron robe draped over his shoulders wears a heavy gold bead necklace with a small gold pendant of a seated deity. He has long dark hair swept back and a red tilak mark on his forehead, and he looks toward the camera with a slight smile. In the left foreground, an older man with grey hair and a white shirt extends his right hand with a ring toward the seated man, as if giving a blessing. A white draped backdrop fills the background. Probable Swamiji; the cues are the saffron robe, long swept-back hair and ornate gold mala.

A photograph of an intimate initiation moment against a deep red draped backdrop. A seated figure in saffron-orange robes, with long swept-back dark hair, a white vibhuti mark on the forehead, rudraksha malas and silver ceremonial necklaces, and bead bracelets, places his right hand on the forehead of a bald man in a white kurta wearing an orange scarf and rudraksha mala. The bald devotee holds his palm up in front of his face in receptive reverence. A gilded golden throne edge is visible at right.

A seated man in orange robes with long swept-back dark hair and a bare chest rests his right hand on the head of a younger man in white kurta and a rudraksha mala, who sits with palms pressed together and eyes lowered. The orange-robed figure has distinctive long hair and orange clothing, a probable Swamiji candidate giving a blessing. Behind them a grey-haired man in glasses and a red forehead mark watches, and a white-draped table holds a tray with flowers, a brass vessel and small offerings. A white bolster lies beside them, and a small pink-and-green object sits in the foreground. The photo shows an in-person ritual setting indoors.

A photograph of a seated figure in long dark hair and an orange garment with the bare upper torso, whose right hand rests on the forehead of a kneeling man in white clothes wearing a brown beaded mala, hands joined in prayer. Behind them a table holds a silver tray with offerings and small items, and an older man in orange and a white shawl stands in the background. The seated figure's distinctive long hair and orange clothing with a bare-chested drape are cues that make this a probable Swamiji (probable) giving blessing to a devotee in what looks like an ashram setting. The kneeling devotee wears a white kurta and an ID card on a lanyard. Red curtains and other people are partly visible around the room.

A photograph inside a room with pink walls and hanging orange and red decorations. A bald older man in a brown kurta with a red beaded mala and folded hands bows his head while a younger man in a beige turban and orange shawl, wearing a long red bead garland with gold accents and gold bangles, places both hands on his head in a blessing gesture. Other men stand around, including one in white and one in a dark shirt looking on. The turbaned man wears a red bead garland and gold bangles, and the outer edge of a figure in orange clothing is visible at right.

A photograph of a seated figure in an orange saffron sleeveless robe over a red undergarment, with long dark hair swept back, and a small red tilak on the forehead, raising both palms toward a young man kneeling or bowing in front of him. The young man wears a white short-sleeved shirt and a dark rudraksha-style mala. The seated figure sits on a red zebra-print cushioned seat in front of an ornate gold repoussé backdrop with a carved deity or divine motif, and a pink floral garland drapes the backdrop's edge. Orange cloth lies on the seat and the floor. The scene suggests a darshan or blessing exchange.
