January 02 20092009-01-02A crowd of devotees presses into a stone temple doorway during a ritual, with a carved granite pillar on the right and blue cloth hangings on both sides. A young woman in an orange top holds a lit flame, and brass oil lamps, a brass kalasha-style pot wrapped in yellow-and-green flowers, and brass vessels sit on a wooden platform in front. Men in white shirts and women in saris stand closely packed behind, with a palm-leaf decoration and a small hanging sound speaker visible overhead. In the foreground, a row of small clay oil lamps burns on a long table, and a brass multi-tiered lamp stands on the floor at left. A white horizontal rope or barrier runs across the frame, partially blurring the scene. Two bare-chested devotees in white dhotis with forehead markings sit near the centre, folded hands raised. The atmosphere suggests a lamp-lit puja or satsang.2011-04-17May 03 20122012-05-03A large hall with a red stage backdrop shows a crowd of children, teenagers and adults seated on the floor performing a ritual with lit oil lamps (diyas) in their hands. In the foreground, men in white dhotis with gold borders and some with sacred threads hold brass lamps and a brass vessel, arms extended forward. Behind them, boys in colourful t-shirts and women in saris and salwar kameez also hold small flames. Brass puja plates and oil lamps sit on mats in front of them.2011-12-13June 05 20122012-06-05A dense crowd of devotees fills a night-time street during a procession, packed shoulder to shoulder. Many women wear sarees in bright yellow, green, red and orange, some with flowers in their hair and kumkum on their foreheads, while men wear white shirts and dhotis or light shirts. A woman at left balances a brass tray or plate on her head, and several hands hold offerings such as flowers and marigold garlands. Overhead on the right, a concrete building with balconies and lights lines the street, and a blue dove-like logo appears in the upper left corner.2006-11-05January 25 20132013-01-25Indoor ritual scene in a plain concrete hall with a carved stone pillar and hanging lights. A bald man in a saffron-orange robe and a beaded necklace kneels at a low stone platform, pouring or offering from a silver bowl over brass and steel puja vessels, with a brass kalasha and flowers on a wooden tray. Devotees in white clothes, including an older woman with folded hands, stand or kneel along the platform, with a young woman in orange at left and another in white with a mala at lower left. A woven vertical banner hangs at upper left. The visible man appears to match the a person cues of a saffron robe and ceremonial beads, yet his face and hair are not clearly distinct, so identity is uncertain; he is presented as a priest performing puja.2007-10-12
