In the foreground a freshly dug rectangular pit holds small offerings: a brass plate of sweets, a banana leaf, a small dish and a flower. Several people in saffron-orange robes stand around it. A woman in orange with a long garland and a man in orange clothing hold offering plates over the pit. A man in a white shirt and dark trousers leans in to assist, and older men in white dhotis and shirts walk in from the left. A silver car, palm trees and dry sugarcane stalks are behind. A man in a dark cap stands on the right, and more villagers are visible further back. The man second from right wears an orange saffron robe, an orange turban and a long beaded necklace, and holds a folded white paper in his hands. Beside him, a man in white kurta and white dhoti with an orange shawl also looks at papers. The two men on the left wear white shirts and white dhotis and walk in sandals, one with a mala necklace. A few more people stand in the background near a small brick hut with an orange flag.2006-12-14
