November 12 2006 Salem Aadheenam Inauguration2006-11-12Outdoor homa or yagna ceremony at a conference ground, with a brick fire pit burning at lower right and brass bowls, lamps and ritual items arranged on a red cloth. A young man in plain white clothes sits with palms pressed together before a microphone. Beside him, a man in white with a white-and-gold shawl and a turban-wrapped head plays a bell, and two young men in saffron robes sit nearby. Behind them, several men in white with red-and-gold shawls and women in cream saris with gold borders stand with hands folded, some holding tall bamboo poles with coloured banners. A decorated pillar with floral and bird motifs stands in the background, and a banner with a website address is visible at upper right. No figure in the scene is clearly identifiable as a person by the appearance cues required, so the scene is described by roles.2005-12-09Outdoor ritual scene under a canopy decorated with banana leaves, garlands and a Tamil banner. Devotees in white dhotis and white saris, many with rudraksha malas, kneel and prostrate on a red mat before a small flame in a brass vessel with kalasha-style brass pots. Several devotees in saffron-coloured shawls and orange cloths sit with folded hands, and a row of saffron-shawled children kneels nearby. Red and white plastic chairs line the area; a man in white stands at left with hands folded, and a bearded man in white with an orange shawl stands at right with palms pressed together.2006-11-12November 12 2006 Salem Aadheenam Inauguration2006-11-12Outdoor ceremony under a white canvas canopy with purple and white bunting strung overhead, with a rocky hillside behind. Many devotees in white dhotis and white kurtas wear orange shawls over their shoulders. Several kneel or bow on woven mats and a red carpet, some prostrating with heads to the ground. A standing man in white, centre, faces the group. Two people at left hold a microphone and a camera or device. A decorated ceremonial structure with banana leaves and a painted panel stands at the left edge. Count visible people roughly 40, so the range is 21-100.2006-11-12Outdoor ritual under a white canopy at a rocky hillside site, with a decorated shrine and banners strung overhead. Seated in rows on red mats, many participants wear white clothes and orange scarves, some with leaf plates and cups before them. At the centre, a person in orange robes sits on a raised mat near an altar, while others in white stand and move about in the background, attending the rite. The setting suggests a homa or puja ceremony at an inauguration, with banners and a shrine visible at the left. Several people sit close to the foreground, with a white-clad helper moving in the rear.2006-11-12Outdoor ritual gathering beneath a canopy hung with colourful woven banners and palm fronds. A young man standing at centre wears white dhoti and an orange shawl, holding a lit flame or incense aloft with one hand while the other grips a small vessel; the scene suggests an aarti. Around him, many devotees in white clothing with orange shawls sit or stand with palms pressed together in anjali. A man at left-foreground films with a handheld camera. Shallow brass plates with lamps and offerings lie on white cloth in the foreground. Several people are partially visible in the background.2007-01-01July 03 20122012-07-03Outdoor bhoomi pooja ground-breaking at the Kanchipuram ashram inauguration, seated beneath a leafy tree in bright sunlight. Around them many men and women in white dhotis and kurtas and white saris sit or stand with palms pressed together, while a line of devotees behind stands in white. A small pit and an oil lamp lie on the ground in front, with a red-and-white sanctified ritual mat and marigolds nearby. Strands of colourful decorations hang in the background, with a red and yellow temple structure visible behind the trees. Several sannyasi with a turban and orange robes are present, with the turbaned figure being the central candidate for the a person appearance check. The pit and offerings suggest a bhoomi pooja ceremony.2006-11-24November 12 2006 Salem Aadheenam Inauguration2006-11-12Outdoor ritual gathering under a decorated pandal on a red carpet. A bare-chested man with a swept-back hair and an orange turban, wearing an orange shawl, sits on a low wooden seat and receives offerings of sliced fruit from people kneeling beside him. Around them, devotees in white dhotis and white saris with gold borders wear orange shawls, and a cameraman films the scene. Palm fronds and hanging decorations frame the tent, consistent with a ceremony at the Salem ashram inauguration.2006-11-12November 12 2006 Salem Aadheenam Inauguration2006-11-12
