July 31 20152015-07-31Photo of a ceremony in a decorated hall. A seated man on a gold-cushioned throne wears a rust-red turban, red-orange robes and a long rudraksha mala with gold beads, smiling as he holds a small offering in his hand. Behind him hangs a large garland of yellow marigolds and red and white flowers, and a gilded lion-shaped carving rests beside the throne. Standing to the left, a shaved-headed priest in white dhoti and shawl with gold border wears rudraksha malas, sacred ash marks on his forehead and arms, and performs a gesture with his hands. A younger man in red-orange cloth and a rudraksha mala stands at the far left edge.2015-07-31A photograph of a ceremonial exchange in an indoor hall with a red curtain and a large gold-carved throne at right. A figure with long dark hair, a rust-orange turban, a red and white flower garland, gold bangles and a gold-bordered saffron-and-yellow cloth draped over bare shoulders gestures with both hands toward men before him. Facing him, a man with a topknot and bare chest wears a white dhoti, a pink-patterned shawl and gold necklaces. Beside him, a man in a green-and-gold shawl and white dhoti holds his hands together in greeting, with a red tilak on his forehead. Behind them, a shaven-headed sannyasi in orange robes and rudraksha beads watches, and a standing man in a white shirt stands at left. Visible cues on the central figure include the long hair, turban, ornate garland and gold ornaments, so the appearance-based label applies: a person, presiding over the exchange.2013-09-16A photograph of a ceremonial wedding-style ritual in a decorated hall. On the left, a bare-chested priest with a blue and gold wrap and a purple turban gestures with both hands while speaking. Beside him, a bare-chested man in a purple and gold shawl stands with palms pressed together. Seated in the centre, a man in white dhoti wears a green embroidered crown-like headpiece and garlands of white and red flowers. At the right, another seated man in a gold turban and white garlands sits close by. Behind them stand a large decorated deity murti draped in flower garlands, a brass kalasha-style lamp, and green and purple cloth. The event is consistent with a Meenakshi Thirukalyanam ceremony.2015-10-18A temple ritual inside a decorated hall with colourful striped pillars and banana leaves. A man with a tall dark turban, orange-red robe and a long multicoloured flower garland stands centre-frame, receiving a ceremonial staff and microphone from a priest. Around him, a bare-chested priest in purple dhoti and gold shawl, another in white dhoti with gold chain and ash markings, and a man in white and gold dhoti with palms pressed together. Flower offerings and a deity statue appear at the edges. Appearance-based candidate for a person: the tall turban, orange-red robe and garland cues, shown as the central figure receiving the garland. Other figures are priests and attendants.2018-04-14A seated bearded man in saffron-brown robes, with long swept-back dark hair and a red tilak on his forehead, smiles while wearing a heavy garland of red roses, yellow flowers and round yellow fruits. Golden bangles are on his wrist. Under the thatched roof and wooden shrine doorway with hanging green leaves and brass bells, a young attendant in white dhoti with gold border kneels offering a red fruit on a golden vessel. Another attendant in white stands at left, and a figure in orange cloth stands at right edge. Swamiji (probable): the seated man wears a saffron robe, flower garland and long swept-back hair; he is the recipient of the offering, a seated guru receiving puja. Ritual setting with brass bells and an offering vessel.2017-01-15October 30 20162016-10-30October 01 20172017-10-01September 10 20172017-09-10 +1 copiesOctober 18 20152015-10-18December 26 20142014-12-26A photograph of a ceremony in a gold-hung shrine room. A smiling man with long dreadlocked hair, a dark red-brown cloth and a large multi-coloured garland of yellow, white, red and green flowers sits on a red cushioned seat. A priest in white dhoti with a gold border and orange shawl leans forward and offers him an item with both hands. Behind them stand other attendants, one wearing a rudraksha mala, and a large floral garland hangs on the wall with green leaves and a gold trident-shaped ornament at the left. The seated man has distinctive dreadlocked hair and garlands, but the appearance is not clear enough for a confident identification.2016-07-19
