Three men stand together on a dirt floor in front of a pale plastered wall, with sacks and a wooden board behind them. The man on the left wears a saffron-orange robe draped over his head and shoulders, with a full black beard and a golden pendant, and holds a long bamboo staff with a red cloth. The man in the centre wears a dark red dhoti with an orange-gold border, a long rudraksha mala, a white forehead marking and earrings, and gestures with both hands toward a clay pot. The man on the right, shaved-headed and bare-chested, wears a red and gold-bordered cloth and a rudraksha mala, holding a clay pot.2014-10-12Night photograph outdoors in front of a plain grey breeze-block wall and a corrugated shelter. Four men in orange and ochre robes stand on a dirt ground. On the far left, a shaved-headed man in an orange shawl and gold-edged dhoti stands in profile. Next, a bearded elder with long white hair wears a full orange wrap and a ring, gesturing with his hands. Behind them a shaved-headed man wears a rudraksha mala and a rust-coloured dhoti with gold borders. On the far right, a smiling man with long dark hair wears a gold-threaded rust garment, a gold necklace and a rudraksha mala, and holds up a fist. On the left, a bald older man in orange robes and a rudraksha bead headband rests his chin on his hand while seated on a bed with a patterned cover. In the centre, a man with long dark hair tied back, wearing a rudraksha bead headband, a long rudraksha mala, a white necklace and an orange robe with gold trim, sits on the bed holding a wooden staff and looks toward the right. On the right, a bearded man in a red robe with gold borders and a rudraksha mala sits on a chair, holding a small packet, with a gold bangle on his wrist. The central man has distinctive long hair, saffron clothing, a rudraksha mala and a ceremonial necklace, so he may be a person, but the appearance is not conclusive.2012-05-24May 08 20122012-05-08August 09 20072007-08-09A photograph taken in a plain, unfinished hall with a concrete block wall, corrugated roof and fluorescent light. A bearded elder in saffron-orange draped robes with a vertical red-orange mark on his forehead stands at centre, speaking and gesturing with one hand. Facing him from the left, a shaven-headed man in brown-orange robes and an orange shawl holds the elder's hand, and another man in orange-brown garments stands at his side. On the right, a figure with hair tied back and a red hair clip wears a gold-bordered brown-orange sari-style drape and an orange beaded necklace, seen from behind. Behind them a man in a white garment and another in saffron stand near a gold-coloured ceremonial object. Four to five people are visible.2013-11-05Four men stand and converse in an indoor hall with a concrete floor and a corrugated ceiling. On the left, a man with swept-back dark hair wears a rust-brown silk dhoti and shawl with a gold border and a long rudraksha-style bead necklace, gesturing as he speaks. Next to him, a bald man in a saffron-orange dhoti, shawl and rudraksha mala listens with hands clasped. Behind them, a person in a white dhoti with coloured border stands near a red table, and at right an elderly white-bearded man in orange robes holds a cane and listens. Gold-coloured deity figures are visible at the far left edge, and a framed picture hangs on the back wall.2013-11-05A photo of an indoor room with a dark patterned curtain and pale yellow-green wall. A bearded man in an orange-saffron shawl and orange head wrap, wearing a garland of yellow and red flowers and a red-and-white cloth over his body, holds a wooden staff in one hand and a pink-red wrapped bundle or gift in the other. Beside him, a smiling man with a shaved head and white sandalwood tilak wears a rust-red robe with a rudraksha-style mala and a gold-banded cloth, gesturing with his hands. Another person in pale clothing is partly visible at the right edge, and a blue-covered table holds books and a folded cloth.2014-10-12A photograph of four men in a room with a red velvet and gold ornate throne at right and a red curtain behind. In the foreground, a bare-chested man with white hair and beard, wearing an orange beaded necklace and a red-orange beaded headband, holds his hands out to a man in a red-orange turban and saffron-gold wrap who is adorned with a long gold chain and gold bangles and is offering or giving something in his palms. Behind them two men in red and saffron robes with rudraksha malas smile, one holding a small white object. The scene appears to be a devotee-and-teacher exchange in a ritual setting.2015-08-20March 14 20142014-03-14
