July 28 20112011-07-28A photograph of a stone temple doorway with blue-painted wooden doors held open, leading into a dim inner passage. In the foreground a barefoot man in a flowing saffron-orange robe walks toward the camera, with long hair, a white tilak mark on his forehead and bare upper arms marked with white paste. Behind him a man in a white dhoti and an orange shawl, wearing a rudraksha mala, walks with other people in orange and white clothing. Further inside, a tall brass oil lamp stands near a group of people, some carrying a tray of offerings. Carved stone pillars and a stone corbel frame the entrance.2009-01-292000 - Acharapakkam (Nadu Pazhani)A photograph taken at night of a narrow, muddy alley between buildings. Three people walk away from the camera in saffron-orange clothing: a woman in orange with a shawl, a person in orange, and a person in an orange cap or wrap. One figure gestures with an outstretched arm toward the left. Beside them a large red signboard with white and blue lettering reads SUNIL LU..., and a wooden shuttered window sits to the left. Overhead hangs a tangle of wires from a utility pole.2005-05-25January 23 20142014-01-23A washed-out photograph of a group descending a wide stone ghat staircase. In the centre, a shaved-headed man in orange robes wears a flower garland and a bead necklace. Behind him, several monks in orange and saffron cloth walk down the steps. A woman in a pink sari stands at the top beside a second woman in red, and a bare-chested man in a red dhoti stands in the foreground on the left. A railing runs along the left edge, with a carved wall and barred window at right. No figure is clearly identifiable as a person from appearance alone, so the central garlanded monk is described by role only.2013-02-13Several people in saffron-orange robes and rudraksha malas walk barefoot down the stone steps of a temple gateway, with a crowd of people in white dhotis and white shirts following behind, some wearing yellow shawls. On the left, a stone lion sculpture sits near the steps. A long-haired man in orange wears a crown-like red headpiece and a shawl, and another long-haired man in orange follows on the right, all carrying a sense of procession. Beside them is a pink single-storey building with wooden doors and a bamboo scaffold, and trees and an overcast sky sit beyond the courtyard.2010-01-08July 30 20122012-07-30February 13 20132013-02-13A photograph of a walkway in a traditional Kerala palace compound, with a low concrete parapet on both sides and a tiled-roof gateway with a green-tiled roof in the background. A man with long dark hair in a saffron-orange robe and a gold-toned ceremonial necklace walks at the front on the right, hands clasped before him. Three men walk ahead of him in bare-chested white dhotis, one with grey hair, and a fourth figure in an orange robe follows further back. Banana plants and a large shade tree frame the scene. Swamiji (probable): the long swept-back hair, saffron robe and ornate gold necklace are the qualifying cues for the figure at the front right.2006-11-10Three men in saffron-orange robes stand on a terracotta-tiled rooftop beside carved stone temple structures with sculpted figures and a dark stone base. A central man in saffron with a light-blue head cloth and rudraksha mala emerges from a square opening in the tiled floor, leaning forward with both hands on its edge. The man on the left, bald and bare-shouldered, walks away in orange wrap clothing, while the man on the right, wearing a light-blue head cloth and a face mask, stands with palms pressed together in a gesture of prayer. Green foliage and a small structure appear in the background.2012-05-22July 10 20082008-07-10
