August 11 20092009-08-11A tall, brightly painted Dravidian temple gopuram rises above a busy street in a Tamil Nadu town. Its tiers are crowded with colourful sculptures of figures and animals in turquoise, red, yellow and cream, topped by a row of finial pots and carved lion-like guardians. In the foreground a silver Ford SUV with a Metro Ford sticker and Karnataka plate KA 04 MN 4444 blocks the view, and a man in a white shirt stands at the left edge. Shop signs and tangled overhead wires line the street, including a vertical sign reading Audhra. No people are the main subject and no a person is visible.2009-08-11A photograph of a tall, richly painted South Indian temple gopuram covered in tiers of colourful sculpted deities, animals and figures in blue, green, red and yellow, with a brown stone base and a golden kalasha finial at the top. In the foreground at right, a man in a light green shirt leans on a silver car, and beside him a bare-chested man with long hair in a plaited braid wears a white dhoti with a coloured border. In the street in front, several people walk and stand: an elderly woman in a red-bordered sari at left, a man in an orange dhoti and shawl, a bare-chested man in an orange cloth, and others in white dhotis and saris near a parked black car and roadside stalls. A roadside banner hangs at right. The scene reads as a Tamil Nadu temple street outside a shrine, with no visible ritual activity or identifiable Swamiji figure.2012-05-09A photograph of a large, colourfully painted gopuram, the tiered entrance tower of a South Indian Hindu temple, rising above a low gateway and a grey-roofed compound. Its many tiers are crowded with painted sculpted figures in red, green, blue and yellow. In the foreground a silver minivan is parked beside a barred gate, and several people in red, pink and white clothing walk along the street and a red-and-white striped wall. Trees and a wooded hill appear behind the temple under a pale blue sky.2012-07-23A street scene before a tall, multi-tiered South Indian temple gopuram covered in painted deity sculptures in pale blue, cream, pink and green. A silver Toyota Innova with a roof rack and a Karnataka plate sits in the foreground on a busy road. Pedestrians walk along the street, including women in dark saris and a man in a checked shirt, while a man in a white shirt on a motorcycle gestures at left. Shopfronts, hanging signs and political or event banners line the road, and a small pale-blue temple sign reads Namasivaya at the gate. No ritual or a person depiction is visibly identifiable.2009-08-01Photograph of a towering gopuram at a South Indian temple, its tiers densely covered with painted sculptures of deities and figures in yellow, green and blue. The tall entrance gateway is shaded below, with a dark passage leading inward. In the foreground a crowd moves through the gate, many men in white shirts and white dhotis, some women in colourful saris, and a few people carrying items. A green tree stands at left and a blue sky shows above. No individual can be clearly identified as a person.2012-06-05May 15 20182018-05-15July 14 20092009-07-14October 31 20062006-10-31
