Overhead photo of a food offering laid on an orange-cloth-covered surface scattered with yellow marigold petals and loose flowers. Four stainless steel containers hold prepared dishes: a pale creamy porridge-like preparation, white rice mixed with herbs, a golden-yellow dry grain dish flecked with curry leaves, and a dark-spiced dish at the front. Beside them, in a round metal bowl, are fried crisp rings and savoury fritters. No people are visible.2011-11-01November 01 20112011-11-01November 06 20112011-11-06Top-down view of a red cloth-covered table holding six stainless steel bowls of prepared foods: a central bowl of golden fried savory snacks, a bowl of white rice with dark specks, a bowl of pale beige paste, a bowl of orange-yellow rice with red chilies, a bowl of yellow rice with orange vegetables, and a bowl of coarse brown mash. Fresh green leaves and a red fruit sit at the left edge on a metal plate, with a small brass tray and dish in the background. No people are visible; the foods appear to be offerings or prasadam laid out for a ritual.2010-11-12A photograph of an offering spread on an orange cloth at a ritual site, showing several stainless steel insulated food containers with their lids open. The dishes include white rice, a golden-brown grain preparation, a creamy white dish garnished with red flakes, fried golden balls or sweets, and a spiced yellow-brown mixture. Two stainless steel vessels stand behind, with brass plates, a small brass lamp and a tall brass vessel at the top right. Part of a white-robed person's arm is visible at the top right corner, and seated people in red-and-gold garments appear at the left edge, partly cropped. The stone-edged platform at right holds a stick of ash and a small cup.2011-12-31Overhead photo of a spread of South Indian vegetarian dishes served in small stainless steel bowls on an orange cloth with a striped border. Behind them a seated woman in a yellow and orange sari with a teal blouse sits on a mat, and a person in white clothing sits at the top edge. Marigold petals and a plate of bananas appear at the top left. The scene suggests a communal offering or annadan meal.2011-11-06Overhead photo of a floor spread of steel vessels filled with prepared dishes laid out on a peach-coloured cloth and a striped mat. Visible dishes include white idlis, a yellow vegetable preparation, dal or sambar, a green curry, coconut or rice preparations, fried snacks and papad. Partially visible at top are seated people in white clothing and a woman in a green and gold sari, with a plate of flowers and fruit nearby. Steel lids rest in front. No one is clearly identifiable as a person, and this is a food offering rather than a clear ritual act.2011-11-06A photo of a buffet-style spread of South Indian vegetarian food in stainless steel bowls and pots on a long metal table, with ladles in many dishes. Dishes include yellow rice with cashews and raisins, curries, a creamy yogurt dish garnished with herbs, poori bread, fried snacks and a sweet pudding.
