A photograph of an excavation trench in red-brown earth, with a thick pale tree root running diagonally across the foreground. The scene shows ground work around a banyan tree root for a construction project.

A photograph of a rectangular excavation pit dug into reddish-brown soil for a temple foundation. A man in a striped collared shirt crouches at the near edge of the pit, leaning forward with both hands resting on the ground. Inside the pit a shovel and a pickaxe with a wooden handle lie on the floor, and a round metal plate sits against the back wall. Part of another person's bare feet and blue clothing is visible at the top edge of the frame. The soil walls show layered earth.
