July 13 20092009-07-13July 13 20092009-07-13A photograph inside a temple corridor of a crowd gathered around a golden palanquin-style ratha/shrine carrying a deity murti dressed in white and orange garments with garlands. The ornate gilded canopy has a tiered dome and carved figures, decorated with colourful striped tassels in red, white, blue and yellow. Many devotees, mostly women in saffron, yellow, green and pink saris and men in white dhotis, press close and look on. Grey stone pillars with carved reliefs frame the scene and green metal gates stand behind. No single figure is clearly identifiable as a person from the visible cues; the palanquin deity is a murti, not a person.2009-07-13October 03 20142014-10-03Photograph of a silver temple chariot pulled by three metallic horses with peacock-feather plumes and beaded tassels, set in a dimly lit temple interior. Behind the horses stands a silver deity murti with a crown-like headdress and a garland of colourful flowers, flanked by ornate gold-toned temple decoration and hanging tassels in red, blue and white. Several men are visible at the right and centre: one in a light green shirt, another in a white dhoti with a sandalwood-marked forehead, and a man in white with a rudraksha-style mala at the far right. Several men stand behind the chariot, and the setting appears to be a South Indian temple procession.2009-07-13October 03 20142014-10-03July 13 20092009-07-13January 12 20072007-01-12A photograph of an ornate gold-plated temple chariot (ratha) standing indoors against brown and grey marble walls. The chariot has a tiered canopy with a kalasha-like finial, carved pillars, and gold horse heads at the front, hung with bells and garlands of blue, purple and orange beads. Multicoloured tassel festoons in pink, white, blue, orange, green, yellow and red hang from the canopy corners. A single man in a white dhoti and white shirt stands at the right edge, bending toward the chariot. A red cabinet is visible beside him.2012-08-20 +1 copiesJuly 13 20092009-07-13January 13 20152015-01-13Night photograph of a ratha (chariot) procession at a temple festival. A richly decorated golden canopied shrine on a chariot is hung with garlands and multicoloured tassels, lit by bulbs. Inside, a deity murti adorned with gold ornaments and flower garlands sits on a pink-draped platform. Two men attend the chariot: one in a brown garment on the left and one in white dhoti with a cloth wrap on the right, holding a cloth and standing at the edge of the platform. A carved figure decorates the base, and the black background surrounds the lit chariot.2014-12-02
