Photograph taken at night indoors of a long-haired man in a saffron-orange robe and red sash, wearing a pink flower garland, smiling with palms pressed together in greeting. Beside him a shaved-headed priest in white dhoti with a white headband, rudraksha mala and sandalwood markings on his chest stands behind a wooden table holding a brass pot with flowers and a woven basket of fruit, bananas, flowers and offerings. A large poster behind shows painted deities and a temple scene. A standing man in a light shirt and dark trousers watches at left, and another person in white is at the right edge.2007-12-12November 13 20102010-11-13Indoor photograph of a welcome moment in a small hall. A man with a shaved head and bare upper body, wearing a white dhoti, stands with palms joined in front of a group of saffron-robed men. The central saffron-clad man has a pink and purple flower garland and a tilak on his forehead, with hands folded. Other saffron-clad men in gold necklaces stand behind him, and one holds a small brass vessel. A plastic chair, a white cloth, and a silver tray with a brass vessel sit on the right, beside a red pillar. Behind them are framed posters of a goddess and a black-and-white portrait captioned with a name. The saffron-clad men are clothed in ochre garments, and the scene suggests a satsang welcome at Thovalai.2009-01-12Indoor temple scene in a small shrine room with pale walls and a painted blue lotus mural on the left. A bare-chested man in a white dhoti and a gold chain, with short dark hair and a moustache, holds a brass plate with a lit oil lamp (aarti) toward a shrine containing a Shiva lingam. Beside him, a woman in an orange-pink sari with pink-beaded bangles and a pale headband stands with her hands raised to her head in prayer, close to a second figure in orange-pink robes. A dark deity murti sits in an alcove in the background.2012-05-18May 18 20122012-05-18Indoor photo in a long, plain hall with a white wall, hanging orange cloths on racks to the right, and a trident hung on the wall at left. A man in a white shirt holds a brass plate of offerings, with yellow-wrapped items, flowers and a small pile of colored powder. Facing him is a man in a saffron-orange robe with a long rudraksha mala, his right hand raised to his forehead as he applies a mark there. The figure in orange has long swept-back hair and a ceremonial stance, consistent with a candidate for a person, appearing as an in-person presence in the scene; the appearance cues are moderately distinctive but not conclusive.2010-11-13Photo 11729143 +1 copiesOctober 04 20102010-10-04 +1 copiesApril 16 20132013-04-16May 18 20122012-05-18January 07 20122012-01-07A young sannyasi in saffron-orange robes with red borders and a rudraksha mala sits on the floor, pressing a white cloth over the head of a man in a white shirt who bends forward with his hands on the cloth. The young priest wears a white forehead mark. Behind them an older man in white with a tilak watches, and a woman in a cream sari with gold border stands at left holding a metal vessel. Brass pots, a small lamp and marigold garlands decorate the foreground, and purple and green draped cloth frames the right edge. The setting appears to be a ritual of anointing or blessing indoors.2008-07-11
