A photograph of a seated group of young saffron-robed monastics in a hall with an orange-and-gold interior, many with shaved heads, rudraksha malas and bangles, sitting on mats with their hands pressed in prayer. Plantain-leaf meals with metal cups are laid out on the floor before them. At the back, a figure in a red-cushioned gold throne, wearing a rudraksha mala and an orange garment, sits above the group, while a cook in white works at steel vessels on the right. Around them, rows of shaved-headed monastics in saffron-orange robes sit cross-legged with their backs to the camera, some holding white cups. Steel serving vessels and green leaf plates with food sit on the floor, and a few women in white saris with orange robes sit nearby. Standing fans and a tablet on a stand are visible at the edges.2013-07-10A large hall with a tiled floor and red curtains shows many seated sannyasi and devotees in saffron-orange robes. In the front rows, young boys in orange cloth with rudraksha malas and white forehead markings sit cross-legged before small silver-covered mats holding brass lamps, bowls and small pots, indicating a ritual setting. Behind them seated musicians play a harmonium and other instruments on a colourful cloth, and women in saris sit nearby. At right stands a painted deity murti with raised hands beside a garland of marigolds and red flowers. Brass oil lamps and a large brass lamp in the foreground hold a flowered garland. Most men wear saffron-orange robes and rudraksha malas, with white horizontal tilak marks on their foreheads, while others wear white dhotis with shawls. Several seated people hold open books, and in the foreground brass plates with offerings and small bowls sit on silver trays. Metal crowd barriers and seated women in white and colourful saris fill the background. No individual is clearly identifiable as a senior teacher in this view.2013-03-13 +1 copiesA photograph of a ritual gathering in a hall, with many young priests and devotees seated on the floor in orange and maroon robes. Foreground boys wear orange cloth and rudraksha malas, their foreheads and arms marked with white ash; some hold small items at their hands while sitting before brass puja vessels, small dishes and flowers on low tables. Behind them, rows of seated participants in maroon and red garments and white clothing sit behind rope barriers, with a few standing figures and an older man in white at the right edge. The scene suggests a puja or abhishekam-style ceremony with brass vessels and oil lamps.2013-09-23A large hall during a seated ritual gathering. In the foreground, several shaved-headed men wear saffron-orange robes, rudraksha malas and white tilak marks on their foreheads and arms, seated on mats before brass plates, small brass lamps and kalasha-style vessels. Behind them, a wide crowd of seated devotees fills the room, many in white and some in orange, with red curtains, air conditioners and a pillar-lined floor. Several people in white stand at the back and the right edge. No candidate can be identified with confidence from appearance, so the seated monastics are described by role only.2013-09-13A large hall with a white tiled floor where many young men and boys in saffron-orange dhotis and shawls sit cross-legged on mats, many with white vertical tilaka marks on their foreheads and rudraksha malas around their necks. Brass puja plates, small lamps and offering trays sit in front of them in a row, and a red-curtained stage with a wooden doorway stands at the back. Behind them, women in white and pastel saris sit in rows, and there is a seated figure in white near the rear. Two rows of chrome posts form a walkway through the hall. This appears to be a group puja ceremony with devotees performing rituals.2013-09-07September 10 20132013-09-10September 09 20132013-09-09
