June 21 2004 Himalayas Yatra - Gangotri, Gaurikund and Kedarnath2004-06-21May 30 20062006-05-30A photograph of an outdoor fire-ritual gathering at a stone-walled square fire pit. A man with long dark hair, a rudraksha mala and an orange robe sits cross-legged at the centre, tending the fire with an oil lamp and a small offering tray at the pit's edge. Around him, roughly thirty devotees sit or kneel in a dense ring, many wearing orange shawls and hands in anjali mudra. Some wear blue or white rain jackets, and a few stand at the back. Ash and smoke rise from the pit.May 30 20062006-05-30May 30 20062006-05-30May 30 20062006-05-30Outdoor photograph of a homa at a stone temple precinct. A central man in saffron-orange robes and a long gold chain necklace stirs offerings with a ladle from a bowl beside the fire, with a small silver vessel nearby. Around him, many people in orange and saffron clothing sit in rows, some with hands pressed together in prayer. Several large umbrellas, red, black and grey, shelter the group from rain. Behind them, a temple entrance with saffron and red decorations and a metal kalasha finial stands in the background. The man at centre, seated with long hair and a gold necklace, is described only by his role as a participant leading the homa; a person identification is uncertain from appearance.2006-05-30March 10 20132013-03-10May 30 20062006-05-30May 30 20062006-05-30Photograph of a homa fire ritual outdoors. In the foreground a stone-lined fire pit blazes. A man with long dark hair, wearing orange robes, a gold pendant and multiple rudraksha malas, sits behind it pouring an offering into the flames from a small metal vessel. A woman in a pink top with an orange shawl sits beside him with hands joined, and a seated person in pink and orange stands at right with an identification card. Several other devotees in orange clothing are visible in the background.2004-06-21Outdoor fire ritual at dusk: a large square homa pit with a bright flame sits in the centre, with brass vessels and offerings around it. Devotees wearing rust-orange and red robes, rudraksha malas, and white and yellow markings on their foreheads sit in a wide circle on the ground and on a low platform. A woman in an orange robe sits upright near the back left of the fire, while a seated woman in orange with folded hands and many visible malas sits at the front, and rows of women and men in orange clothing sit along the back. A framed picture stands behind the fire area. The scene suggests a homa or yagna.2013-03-18
