Several shaven-headed priests in saffron-orange robes with gold necklaces and rudraksha beads sit cross-legged, feeding wooden sticks into the fire from brass trays and a metal vessel. Women in cream and yellow saris, one with an orange shawl, stand watching in the background, with a large drum visible behind the priests and smoke rising through string lights.2011-11-10Photo 11684193Outdoor photograph of a fire-offering ritual beside coconut palms. Thick white smoke rises from a rectangular stone fire pit with scattered flower petals on its edge. A bald-headed man in an orange-red unstitched cloth wears a long rudraksha mala and pours liquid from his cupped hands toward the fire. Beside him, a younger man in orange robes with a swept-back dark hairstyle holds a small brass bowl. A third man in orange stands at the right edge, and a few people are blurred in the background near parked white vehicles. The scene suggests a homa with offerings, but only what is visible is described here.2009-06-15
