A man in an orange-saffron dhoti and shawl, with a sandalwood tilak on his forehead, long swept-back hair and a heavy gold necklace, reaches out to touch the elephant while smiling. Behind him a shaven-headed attendant in orange robes and a rudraksha mala stands at left, and several men in white shirts and dhotis gather nearby. An Indian mahout in khaki stands at the left holding a stick, and a uniformed police officer in khaki with a red belt is nearby. A man in white shirt and dhoti and several saffron-robed devotees stand in a crowd of onlookers near carved pillars and a gopuram-style temple wall. Swamiji (probable) is the central figure, wearing the saffron robe, long hair and garland, honoured by an elephant at a temple visit.2010-01-08A photograph at night of a crowd gathered at a temple entrance with stone pillars. In the centre, a man in orange robes and an orange turban wears a multi-coloured flower garland and a rudraksha mala, and reaches toward the trunk of a grey elephant. Beside him a bearded sannyasi in orange with a mala stands close. Around them devotees in white and orange clothes raise their hands and smile, and men in white shirts and dark trousers stand at the right edge. A candidate for a person is present on the basis of his orange turban, flower garland and rudraksha mala, though the appearance is uncertain (probable). The scene suggests a temple visit with an elephant blessing, but no ritual name is clearly visible.2008-01-02January 08 20102010-01-08Outdoors at a stone temple entrance, an elephant extends its trunk toward a man in saffron-orange robes who wears a multi-strand rudraksha-style necklace and a long floral garland of white and red blossoms.
