A dense crowd of devotees fills a street outside a colourfully painted temple gopuram-style gateway with ornate pillars, circular medallion decorations and lion-bracket carvings. Several large ceremonial umbrellas with red, gold and multicoloured fringed canopies are carried above the crowd during a procession, along with banners and a palanquin-like canopy. Most people wear white dhotis and shirts, with some in saffron or orange garments. Green banana-leaf and palm decorations are strung across the entrance.
