Night procession on a dirt road. A decorated palanquin-style ratha with colourful striped cloth canopy and lit lamps is pulled by a red tractor with headlights. Around it, devotees in white and saffron walk, and women in maroon costumes with white painted faces carry brass items. On the left, a bare-chested man in white dhoti with a rudraksha mala and sacred ash raises his hands near ritual staffs and a ceremonial umbrella. Street lights and dark trees frame the scene.2013-03-02Photo 11729968 +1 copiesPhoto 11729966 +1 copiesPhoto 11731502A night procession on a dirt road past a tractor with a decorated trailer. A man in a white dhoti with bare, ash-smeared upper body raises his hand in blessing toward the chariot. Nearby, a man in a white shirt and beige trousers walks beside a young boy in a checked shirt, and a line of women and girls in red garments with white-painted faces walk alongside. A red Massey Ferguson tractor pulls a decorated chariot (ratha) with a multicoloured, cone-shaped canopy of patterned cloth and a golden gopuram-like top, lit by warm lamps and garlanded with flowers at its base. A bare-chested man in white dhoti and shawl with white face markings walks beside the tractor, one hand on the chariot. Behind, several people in dark red and maroon costumes with white face paint and flower garlands follow, and a woman in a white sari with gold border holds a silver trident (trishula) on the right. Tractor driver and passengers sit at left, and a small crowd moves through the lit street.2013-03-02January 1st 2013 +1 copies
