Photo 11724736February 13 20132013-02-13February 12 20132013-02-12Outdoor river procession on a decorated boat on the Ganga at Varanasi. A central figure sits on an ornate throne-like seat with a zebra-striped cushion, wearing orange robes, a long white and orange bead necklace, and a red-and-white forehead mark; long dark hair falls to the shoulders, and the figure is barefoot and smiling. Behind is a multicoloured umbrella with floral motifs and fringe, and gilded kalasha-style staffs and a trident stand beside. Around are saffron-robed sadhus and white-clad attendants holding ceremonial staffs, and a bare-chested man with mala beads. Rose petals lie on the platform and a small tray of petals sits in front. Crowds of devotees line the boat and the riverbank in the hazy background. Probable Swamiji (probable) is seated on the throne with long swept-back hair, orange clothing and white-and-orange bead garlands, while the attendants and devotees around him are in saffron and white.2013-02-13A long-haired figure in a saffron-orange robe sits on an ornate gold and red throne decorated with flowers and a garland, raising both hands in blessing. Several attendants in saffron and orange robes stand and kneel around the throne, one holding a tall gold staff. A large ornate umbrella with green, red and gold panels shades the throne, and a broad water-side crowd of people sits on tiered steps in the background. A small decorated plate with flowers and a lit lamp sits at the base of the throne, with banana-leaf and flower offerings nearby.2009-02-23February 12 20132013-02-12A photograph of a floral-decorated ceremonial palanquin-throne set in shallow water beside stepped red stone ghats with rows of small shrines. A young person in an orange-saffron garment with a red and white flower garland sits on an ornate gold-and-red throne with a yellow floral backdrop and a fringed canopy overhead. Men and women wearing white and yellow sashes and white dhotis stand in the water around the platform, several with bare torsos and beaded necklaces, and some holding the poles or wading alongside. The scene appears to be a water procession in a ritual setting, with marigold garlands, roses and white flower strands lining the platform.2010-10-17A three-panel collage of Mahashivratri 2010 events at an outdoor ashram venue. The top-left panel shows a large crowd of people in white clothes on red-brick tiered steps, with women in colourful saris, ceremonial umbrellas and a decorated procession. The right panel shows a seated figure on an ornate gold-and-red throne heavily decorated with marigold and rose garlands, wearing an orange robe and a white-and-red garland, with an attendant in orange beside the throne and a crowd in white behind. The bottom-left panel shows a rectangular water tank with a large central linga-like shrine, surrounded by rows of black lingams along the edges, tiered seating and a crowd at dusk. The collage shows the activities but the physical people counted are only those visible in the photographs, which is more than twenty.2010-02-12May 19 20152015-05-19February 13 20132013-02-13Outdoor procession on a riverside platform. A central figure with long swept-back dark hair, saffron-orange robes, a rudraksha mala and ornate gold necklaces sits on a silver-framed throne with bare feet, smiling and holding a trident-topped staff; the appearance is consistent with Swamiji (probable), seated as the honoured guest. Around him, devotees in saffron and white stand and sit, some holding trident staffs and orange-yellow ceremonial banners and a red-and-multicoloured parasol. Several saffron-robed monastics wear beaded malas, and a woman in an orange sari kneels at right. Flower petals scatter on a patterned cloth below the throne, and a black speaker sits at the platform's edge.2013-02-13September 04 20112011-09-04
