April 29 20122012-04-29A procession of women in traditional Indian dress carries brass pots called kalasha, each topped with mango leaves, a coconut and white jasmine garlands. Women wear white and cream saris, one in a pale blue sari, another in a floral pink and white sari, and an older woman in blue. Several have white vibhuti marks on their foreheads, rudraksha malas around their necks and flowers in their hair. Behind them, a golden ceremonial trident and a tall ornate standard with embroidered orange and red panels are visible, along with a green banner with red lettering. Spectators stand at the edges of the street.2012-04-29Photo 11687500 +2 copiesPhoto 11687501Photo 11681103 +1 copiesPhoto 11687506 +3 copiesA long line of women in white and cream traditional sarees with gold borders stands along a path, each holding a brass kalasha topped with coconut, mango leaves and flowers, a ritual water-pot offering.
