A wide photograph inside a large hall with pink walls and hanging lanterns, showing a long row of sannyasis seated on the floor in saffron-orange dhotis and orange turbans, many bare-chested with ash markings. Leaves and small brass cups with food offerings are set in front of them on green leaf plates. Further back, seated devotees in white dhotis and shawls face a stage where performers in white and coloured costumes stand, and a screen shows a bright image. A video camera on a tripod records the scene at right. A standing figure in black stands at the centre aisle. The sannyasi in front on the right wears a painted face and a long braid, with a kumkum mark on the forehead; no candidate is clearly identifiable as a person.2018-01-08Indoor hall with white tiled floor and banners on the walls, where a group of saffron-robed sannyasis and women in orange saris sit in two rows on mats before brass plates. Many are visibly seated in meditative posture, hands folded.
