A photograph of the colourful painted gopuram (temple tower) of a South Indian temple, with a large white upper tower covered in sculpted figures behind it. The painted tiers hold multiple deity statues: a seated multi-armed figure at the top, a dark-skinned multi-armed deity with a crescent-like crown in the middle, and standing figures below including a pink elephant-headed Ganesha on the left, a white-clad male deity in the centre, a green-faced figure in orange garments, and a standing figure on the right. Strings of yellow and maroon flower garlands hang down the left side, and a red-and-white flag flies at the top. No living people are visible.2017-02-06February 06 20172017-02-06February 06 20172017-02-06February 06 20172017-02-06January 17 20182018-01-17A photograph of a colourful gopuram, the tiered entrance tower of a South Indian temple, in the foreground. Its lower tiers are painted in red, pink, green and blue with painted deity and attendant sculptures, and the upper section is topped by a red pennant on a small spire. Behind it rises a tall whitewashed gopuram covered in carved figures and stucco, and a rocky, scrub-covered hill stands against a pale blue sky. Strings of marigold garlands hang at the left edge, and a small painted shrine with a decorated arch appears at the lower right. No people are visible.2017-02-06February 06 20172017-02-06May 15 20182018-05-15May 15 20182018-05-15June 05 20122012-06-05May 29 20122012-05-29A colourful Hindu temple gopuram carved with a tiered tower of painted stucco deities against a pale blue sky. At the centre, a multi-armed deity murti sits on a lotus seat with a crown, flanked by two smaller attendant figures. Around them, figures ride white and cream animal mounts, including a horse-like vahana and a bull, while muscular dvarapala guardians with moustaches and jewelry sit at the upper corners. Green and red accents, garlands and carved bull-shaped figures decorate the upper tiers.2012-05-29 +1 copies
