A large blue ceremonial umbrella with fringed gold trim stands at right, and red flags on poles are held by participants. Behind them a man in white with a red lanyard and other people in white and orange move through the crowd. Many people wear white or cream dhotis and saris with red or orange sashes and bead necklaces. Several women and men in saffron-orange garments carry red flags and a brass kalasha-like vessel. A bald man in saffron dhoti and a long gold-and-rudraksha mala walks at the centre-right, while a man in saffron with a rudraksha mala walks at the right edge. Several men have shaved heads and wear rudraksha malas, and the women wear beaded necklaces and drape their garments over their shoulders. Behind them a decorated vehicle with a red, orange and yellow floral canopy carries a framed image of a deity and a flag on a pole. The group numbers roughly two dozen visible people, with some partly obscured in the background. No individual can be confidently identified as a person from appearance, so roles are used.2013-11-15December 20 20112011-12-20Outdoor street procession in a South Indian town. A large yellow canopy with dark red fringe and gold-accented panels is held overhead. In the foreground, a man with long dark hair, a red flower garland, gold armlets and an orange-saffron garment raises both hands in greeting toward the crowd. Beside him, men in orange robes wear heavy gold necklaces, and one smiles while holding an orange cloth. Orange flags, a colourful wheeled ratha or chariot and a gopuram temple tower stand in the background among onlookers and multistorey shops.2011-12-20
