Night-time temple ritual with a large crowd seated on stone steps under string lights and stage lamps. In the foreground, a bare-chested drummer in an orange cloth and rudraksha mala beats a barrel drum wrapped in yellow cord, while a young boy in orange and a child with a tilak watch nearby. A man in a white dhoti with gold border sits at left beside a stone kalasha-like vessel. Behind them, many devotees in white, orange, red and pink clothes hold brass horns and pour or blow into golden horns. The scene reads as a procession-side ritual during an evening brahmotavam event.2016-12-06Night photograph of devotees seated on red stone steps at an outdoor ceremony with rows of black ritual pots (kalasha) and oil lamps along the steps. In the foreground a bare-chested drummer in white dhoti and brown shoulder cloth plays a large barrel drum, while a musician in white dhoti plays a brass horn (kombu-style wind instrument) beside him. Behind them a young boy in white kurta with red-beaded mala sits beside a woman in a green and white outfit, and a man in white shirt with red thread sits nearby. On the right a woman in a purple sari stands with palms joined in prayer. A man in the foreground wearing a white shirt, white dhoti with a red border and a yellow-cord necklace plays a long dark wooden shehnai-style wind instrument with a flared bell. Beside him a younger man in white clothes with a yellow-cord necklace holds a red-and-silver wrapped drum called a mridangam or thavil. Behind them, several people in white dhotis and shirts sit on the steps, one with hands folded in prayer, and a metal railing with red and orange cloth stands at left. The attire suggests a ritual musical performance.2016-12-09 +1 copiesDecember 03 20162016-12-03December 06 20162016-12-06December 09 20162016-12-09 +1 copiesDecember 02 20162016-12-02January 06 20162016-01-06 +1 copiesPhoto 11730966 +1 copiesMay 24 20172017-05-24February 03 20142014-02-03
