January 01 20122012-01-01Outdoor procession at a rural site with many people crowding the road. Several colourful striped umbrellas in red, yellow, green and blue are carried above a central figure dressed in orange and saffron robes with a garland, flanked by people in orange and saffron clothing. Tall orange flags with a blue emblem and yellow ceremonial banners on poles move through the crowd. Men wear white dhotis and shirts, women wear sarees in pink, green and blue, and some carry bags. Banana plants and a string of orange and red pennants run along a dry field behind them under a hazy sky. The central figure is seated on a raised palanquin-style platform, which suggests a ratha or procession carriage.2009-01-01Kailasa Paramparagatha Arunagiri Yogishwara Adi Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha Samrajyam +1 copiesDecember 15 20112011-12-15July 24 20102010-07-24 +2 copiesA photograph of a festival procession moving along a dirt road lined with palm trees under a bright sky. Drummers in the foreground play large barrel drums; one wears a yellow shirt and one a striped shirt, and a man in a striped shirt and white dhoti plays a drum. Behind them, men and women in white dhotis and white garments, some with red or orange shawls, walk beside colourful ornamental parasols and a white canopy carried on poles. Many orange and red flags wave above the crowd. A man in a white shirt holds a brass pot with flowers and fruit, and another carries a wind instrument. Several people in saffron-orange robes walk near the front. Huts and greenery frame the scene.2009-06-09December 25 20072007-12-25A three-panel graphic collage of a procession. The large left panel shows a street procession with a decorated palanquin and colourful umbrellas, with many people in white shirts and saffron-orange cloths walking alongside, carrying orange flags, and cars and an auto-rickshaw on the road. The upper right panel shows a bald man in an orange robe standing on a decorated float with flower garlands, beside a woman in orange and a person holding a white fan or whisk. The lower right panel shows people in orange and red garments seated on a flower-covered float with garlands and red fabric canopy, with a man in orange holding a fan. Because this is a collage of photographs rather than a single photo, no physical people are counted in the graphic itself.2010-07-24 +1 copiesDecember 31 20112011-12-31A three-panel graphic collage of a Pada Yatra procession. The left panel shows drummers and a ratha or palanquin decorated with long garlands of orange and yellow flowers, with a green and purple cloth hanging from it, while men in orange dhotis, saffron turbans and green and orange clothing carry or drum. The upper right panel shows a street lined with white-clad marchers and red and orange banners held aloft. The lower right panel shows uniformed police in khaki and white-clad marchers carrying a large red banner with a portrait, walking past a green bus. A temple gopuram and trees appear at upper left. People in the photos are numerous, though the collage itself contains no physical people.2010-07-24 +1 copiesA large outdoor crowd of devotees in white clothing gathers on an open dirt ground during a procession. Several tall poles carry saffron and orange flags, and a green banana plant stands at left beside a mix of trees and low buildings. Many people raise their hands in greeting or folded palms, and some women wear red and orange saris. In the middle foreground a man in white with folded hands faces the crowd, and a bald older man in white stands at lower right. Parked vehicles appear at the edge of the grounds under a hazy sky.2008-01-01A procession of many people in white clothing walks along a dry grassy roadside lined with coconut palms and banana plants. Orange and red triangular flags on poles rise above the crowd, and a colourful striped canopy or umbrella appears at the left edge. Most walkers wear white kurtas and dhotis or saris, with some in orange or red garments. The scene reads as a ceremonial march through a rural village setting under bright daylight.2007-12-30 +1 copies
