May 21 20162016-05-21A procession of devotees in saffron-orange robes walks across a paved courtyard beside white tent walls. In the foreground a large red flag bears a printed portrait of a figure in an orange turban, carried on a pole. Behind it a drummer plays a silver drum, and a dancer in orange with long braided hair and beaded necklaces moves with a brass bell. A multicoloured fringed canopy is held aloft, and a trident-shaped staff rises at the right. Many women and men in orange and yellow garments with rudraksha malas and marigold garlands follow in a dense procession.2017-12-30April 22 20162016-04-22A young boy in a dark blue kurta with a red bindi holds up three red flags on blue poles in an indoor pandal with orange draped fabric and ceiling fans. Each flag bears a printed portrait of a smiling man with a saffron head wrap and long hair; these are printed images on the flags, not physical people. Behind the boy, a bare-chested man in a white dhoti and an orange-clad figure stand near a decorated space with statues and a wheeled structure. The setting suggests temple preparation work for an ashram event.2016-04-16Outdoor procession scene with several women in devotional dress. A woman in a white blouse and saffron-orange shawl, wearing glasses and a red-and-white sash, holds up a red flag printed with a portrait of a figure in an orange turban and saffron clothing. Beside her, another woman in a white dress and orange sash raises her hands, while a woman in an orange-brown sari with a long gold beaded necklace and dark braided hair stands at right. A red-draped stall and a red palanquin-style canopy with gold trim appear in the background. Several other women and a child in yellow pants are partly visible at the edges.2016-04-18December 20 20102010-12-20A dark red flag is held aloft in the foreground, printed with a smiling man wearing an orange-yellow turban with a red tilak, long dark hair and saffron clothing. Behind it a procession moves along a road under a pale sky, with a red-and-gold decorated umbrella over a figure in white and a crowd of saffron-robed sadhus. Colourful banners and a hill line the background. The flag's printed figure is a depiction; the people in the procession are partly visible at the lower left, and their faces are not clear enough to count reliably beyond a small group.2015-09-15Outdoor photo of a procession of devotees walking on a dusty road at the Kumbh Mela, many carrying bright orange-red flags on poles. In the foreground a woman in a white shawl with red-bordered sari and white gloves holds an orange flag, and another woman in a white shawl carries a white plastic can. Other walkers wear white and red garments, a pink head wrap appears at right, and a bearded man in a striped sweater and knit cap walks among them. A concrete overpass and hazy sky are visible behind. A large sign and a decorated tower stand in the background. The scene reflects the Maha Snan pilgrimage procession described on the page.2013-02-10Outdoor procession on a bright, clear day under a pale blue sky. In the centre, a golden palanquin-style float is covered by a yellow and multicoloured striped canopy. Seated on the golden float is a figure in orange robes with a saffron head-wrap, flanked by attendants; a man in white dhoti stands at the front of the float. Crowds fill the foreground. On the left, large red flags bear a painted portrait of a bearded man with long hair. On the right, young people in orange and saffron clothing with rudraksha-style beaded necklaces sit on a vehicle, and a boy in a white shirt is visible. Hindi-script signage and banners line the background, and a red-and-white flag streams in front of a tree.2016-04-22February 12 20132013-02-12December 25 20072007-12-25A festive procession moves through a dusty courtyard beside white tent canopies. In front, a drummer in a white shirt and rudraksha mala raises his arm and beats a drum, surrounded by many devotees in saffron-orange robes and rudraksha malas, many with long hair tied back. A large red flag bearing a faded portrait image flies above the crowd, and behind it a palanquin draped with multicoloured cloth and garlands is carried along, with a trident-topped staff and pink parasol visible. Several people in white and pastel dhotis and saris walk among the marchers, and a wooden ratha or chariot-style cart with carved panels sits at the left edge. Many drums, cymbals and processional instruments are played as the procession advances.2017-12-30
