A photograph of a temple ritual at an outdoor shrine with an orange-red wall and striped steps. Two gold-coloured deity murti figures sit side by side, garlanded with yellow and purple-red flower strings, one wearing a red turban and the other a purple sari with a crown. A priest in white dhoti and shawl with a bare upper body stoops at the left near a microphone and a small fire pit, while a man in a green and red silk garment with a red shawl and beaded garland pours yellow flower petals from a silver plate onto the altar. Brass vessels, a silver kalasha-like pot, marigold and white flower offerings and potted plants surround the platform, indicating a puja.2011-12-16December 16 20112011-12-16A photo of a ritual at an outdoor shrine with orange-tiled walls and potted plants. A long-haired person in an orange silk sari with gold border and a gold necklace holds a lit camphor aarti lamp toward two large deity murtis, one in orange with a crown and one in pink and yellow with a red garland and pearl necklaces. A small golden murti sits on a green-backed throne draped with a maroon cloth decorated with gold dots, garlanded with white flowers. A shaved-headed attendant in orange robes with a rudraksha mala holds a brass plate of offerings at left. The attendant is visible at left; the person with long hair is in the centre. The ritual is aarti offered to the murtis.2011-10-26A woman in a green silk sari with a silver-bordered pallu stands at a shrine performing an aarti with a lit oil lamp in her right hand and a small bell in her left. Behind her, two men in saffron-orange robes with rudraksha malas stand near a brass tray. Before her is an ornately decorated deity murti dressed in green and red garments and draped in garlands of yellow, purple and red flowers, with a white garland. Brass oil lamps stand on either side, and a small white seated statue, also garlanded, sits at the front of the altar. The scene appears to be a temple puja.2011-12-16December 16 20112011-12-16A temple shrine with a large deity murti pair seated on a raised platform, the figures draped with garlands of yellow marigolds, red and purple flowers and green leaves. A standing devotee in yellow clothing with long dark hair stands with palms pressed together in namaskar on the left. Behind them, an ornate arched gold frame surrounds the murtis. In the foreground are brass lamps, a small kalasha-style pot and a plate of offerings on a white-draped table. Two men in white and orange-red robes stand at the left edge. Grey carved stone pillars frame the scene.2010-12-23December 18 20112011-12-18A photograph of a figure in a saffron/orange robe with long dark hair and a rudraksha-style necklace seated at the lower left, performing a ritual with a small lamp and brass vessels arranged on a white-draped platform. Behind, two large painted deity statues stand on a raised dais decorated with garlands of orange, yellow and white flowers; the taller figure wears an orange turban and holds a trident-like staff, and the other wears a tall crown and green-and-orange garment. A red curtain frames the open stone pavilion with carved pillars, and a small shrine stands at the right. The statues are not living people, and the saffron-clad figure is an appearance-based candidate whose identity is uncertain, so the description records only the ritual role.2007-12-22December 23 20072007-12-23A photograph of an outdoor ritual at an ashram.
