A homa fire ritual at an outdoor altar. A priest in white clothing, with a red-and-black thread and metal bangles on his wrist, pours liquid from a brass ladle into a sunken fire pit where flames rise. Brass bowls, small silver vessels and yellow and purple flowers surround the altar. Behind it stands a colourful deity murti with a multi-headed cobra hood, and smoke drifts upward. No person's face is visible enough to assess presence of a person, and the scene shows only the priest's hands and white-clad body.2016-09-09A photograph of a fire ritual. A fire burns in a wooden fire pit in the foreground with bright orange flames rising on the right. A hand in a white sleeve holds a long-handled silver ladle, pouring offerings into the fire. Silver bowls hold rice and other offerings, with small metal cups nearby. Yellow marigold petals and pink flowers scatter the wooden platform. Behind the fire pit, a large coiled serpent deity murti with blue and gold markings rests on a teal-and-gold pedestal, garlanded with yellow flowers. No people are fully visible beyond the hand and arm; the scene contains one visible person.2016-09-09A photograph of a fire ritual at a temple shrine.
