Outdoor procession on a paved street in India. Several men in saffron-orange dhotis and shawls, many wearing gold-toned and bead necklaces, walk together. The central man has long dark hair with a rudraksha-style headband, a multi-strand bead necklace, and a gold necklace, gesturing with one hand. Nearby, a bald elderly man in an orange shawl with rudraksha malas holds hands with a younger man in a yellow-bordered dhoti. Women in green and orange saris and men in white ritual clothes walk behind. Trees and a building with barred windows form the background, and a man in white photographs from the roadside.2012-06-05November 25 20092009-11-25May 18 20122012-05-18August 02 20082008-08-02A procession of men walks barefoot along a stone-paved path beside temple buildings with painted pink and yellow walls and palm trees behind. In the centre, a smiling man with long, swept-back dark hair and vibhuti on his forehead wears a white and marigold garland with a red and yellow flower accent, a saffron-orange robe with gold border, and a gold ceremonial necklace, raising his hand in greeting. Around him, devotees wear saffron robes and gold-bead necklaces with pendants, while others in white dhotis with saffron-gold borders and shaved heads walk alongside. The scene suggests a temple procession with the central figure acknowledging the crowd.2010-12-29December 23 20082008-12-23Outdoor procession on a stone-paved path near a gopuram temple tower. Around him walk shaved-headed men in orange and white dhotis with gold necklaces and white forehead markings, some with bare shoulders, and a photographer raises a camera in the background.2010-12-29June 09 20092009-06-09A street procession moves past a concrete building with palm trees behind. At the centre, a smiling man in a saffron-orange dhoti-style garment and a long gold bead necklace raises both hands in greeting, walking beside a tall ornate ceremonial staff topped by a red, gold and blue embroidered canopy. Around him, men in white shirts and white dhotis wear rudraksha malas, one carries a bouquet of white and yellow flowers, and another holds a saffron flag. A bearded sannyasi in orange robes and a pendant walks in the foreground on the right, with a man in white clothing beside him.2009-11-25A group of saffron-robed sannyasis walks barefoot along a paved street in front of a temple gateway. The central man wears an orange dhoti and shawl with gold borders and a long ornate gold bead necklace, with a red bindi on his forehead. Around him, men in white dhotis with gold-bordered shawls and white-and-orange-clad monastics carry a small brass vessel and an orange cloth bag. Sandalwood tilaka marks cover several foreheads, and rudraksha malas hang on many chests. Behind them, a metal gate and shopfronts line the street. Appearance cues alone are not sufficient to identify the central figure, so his role is described as a saffron-clad sannyasi leading the procession.2011-09-26A photograph of a walking procession on a paved brick courtyard.
