Outdoor photo at dusk of a flag-hoisting ceremony under a corrugated roof decorated with orange triangular pennants. A man on the left wears a saffron-orange robe, gold chain and bangle, and holds a thick white rope bundle tied with a red cloth and yellow marigold garland. A second man on the right, with long hair and a bare back, wears a green-yellow garment with metallic trim and is adjusting the rope at the top of a tall pole decorated with marigold garlands and a palm-frond bundle. Hanging ropes and garlands frame the scene.2010-12-20Outdoor dwajarohanam flag-hoisting scene at dusk beside a tall copper-toned ritual flagstaff wrapped in orange cloth and rope, with a carved figure panel, yellow marigold garlands and a pink-and-white flower base. A long-haired man in orange-red robes wrapped in a red-and-gold-trimmed garland of red and yellow flowers stretches up to the top of the pole with both arms, while a bald man with bare chest and orange shawl beside him holds a silver tray of flowers. Palm trees and a dim sky frame the scene. Two white-clad figures stand at the lower left edge.2013-03-11November 12 20102010-11-12July 20 20132013-07-20Outdoor dhwajarohanam flag-raising ritual at a copper-clad ceremonial pole decorated with yellow and red marigold garlands and a bundle of green leaves. Two priests in rust-red and saffron-yellow dhotis and shawls stand on either side; the right priest, bare-chested with a red and gold garland and beaded bracelets, adjusts a white cloth tied to the pole, while the left priest in an orange-yellow shawl watches. A small copper-toned seated figure is set into the pole's shrine niche. Palm fronds and paper strips hang at the left edge under a corrugated roof.2014-11-26November 29 20112011-11-29A photograph of a white ritual figure seated on a decorated white pedestal in a pale blue room. The figure wears an orange-saffron robe, an orange head wrap, and multiple garlands of yellow, orange and white marigolds with red and purple flowers, plus a dark rudraksha-style bead necklace. A man in a white dhoti and white shirt stands at left, bending over the pedestal, and a second man in a dark shirt stands behind him, both appearing to attend to the figure. Flower-strewn offerings surround the base, and a small deity murti with a crown sits at lower left beside a microphone. This is a statue and not a living person, so no physical person is counted as a person. Ritual offerings and garlanding suggest a puja or padapuja.2010-02-18January 02 20102010-01-02 +1 copiesOutdoors under a corrugated metal roof, a long-haired figure in a rust-orange garment with a gold waist band and a bare upper body reaches toward a tall ornate copper or brass kalasha-like vessel wrapped with white cloth and topped with green leaves. Red and white flower garlands hang down its carved sides, and thin ribbon streamers are tied around it. A second man in a rust-orange robe with a rudraksha mala and a shaved head stands at right, holding up ribbons. Gold bangles adorn the first figure's arms. This appears to be a ritual decoration or abhishekam-style preparation of a sacred vessel.2015-01-04Outdoor photo of two shirtless priests in maroon and saffron dhotis with gold-bordered cloths, one on each side of a large copper-toned ceremonial kalasha-style pillar topped with leafy green foliage and a white cloth wrap. Both priests have their arms raised to the top of the pillar, adjusting or securing it. Garlands of yellow marigolds and red, pink and purple flowers drape the pillar and its base. A small seated figure in a niche of the pillar is visible. Palm trees and green shrubs fill the background, with a few more people at the bottom edge.2014-11-26Night photograph of a temple-style stage at an outdoor ritual venue. Two men stand at the platform beside a small metal deity murti draped with a yellow and orange marigold garland. The man in the centre wears bare-chested with an orange dhoti and gestures toward the murti with his hands raised; the man beside him wears a white dhoti and shawl and stands close. Five polished brass pots or kalashas sit in a row in front of the murti on the red-and-white striped platform. Behind them a large wall is covered in layered garlands of marigold, white and maroon flowers. Metal scaffolding with stairs and bright floodlights frames the scene, with rows of seating and red flags in the background.2016-12-06March 11 20132013-03-11
