April 24 20162016-04-24A homa fire burns in a brick-lined fire pit inside a decorated tent, with ritual items around it. Two priests in saffron-orange robes sit cross-legged behind the fire: the nearer one wears a rudraksha mala and gold necklaces and has long, dark, unbound hair. Beside them a shaved-headed priest in white sits with a mala. Brass lamps, kalasha-style vessels and brass oil lamps are arranged on red mats, with a crowd of devotees standing behind a railing in the background. Hanging paper decorations and orange umbrellas hang overhead. The priest in saffron with long hair is a probable candidate for a person by appearance, though the image is not clear enough to confirm.2016-04-24A photograph of a homa fire ritual inside a red-carpeted tent hung with colourful triangular banners and a chandelier. A square fire pit lined with yellow bricks marked with white swirl designs holds a bright flame. A young boy in white dhoti with gold border and gold necklace stands at left, while three young ritual attendants in saffron/orange robes and beads sit around the fire, one tending offerings from a bowl. Brass oil lamps, brass bull figurines and a small brass kalasha surround the pit, and a crowd of onlookers stands behind a barrier.2016-04-24A homa fire ritual in progress. A brick-lined fire pit holds flaming wood and ash at the bottom centre. A man in orange cloth sits cross-legged at the front right, pouring from a small vessel into the fire. Behind the fire, a seated man in a long orange robe with a bare upper body and a wide crimson-and-gold sash, adorned with a large gold pendant and a rudraksha-style necklace, sits with hands together. Beside him a man in a purple cloth and ochre dhoti is seated, and further back a man in white stands. On the right, brass lamps, a metal pot and rows of small white packets are arranged on shelves. Woven striped mats in red, green and blue cover the floor.2015-09-14April 25 20162016-04-25A homa fire pit lined with yellow brick, with flames rising from burning wood and offerings of seeds and red petals, is the centre of the scene. A man in orange robes and a rudraksha mala sits cross-legged at the fire and tends the flames with a ladle. Beside him, a man in a plain orange cloth and a purple shawl kneels and tends the fire, and a seated man in orange robes with a gold necklace and a gold garland watches. Behind them, priests in white dhotis and orange cloths attend a row of small white lamps and a brass lamp stand, and a shelf of carved deity and animal figures is visible on the right. A central figure in orange robes, with long grey hair, sits calmly with hands folded. The scene appears to be a ritual homa in progress at an outdoor setup with a colourful striped mat.2015-09-14September 24 20172017-09-24 +2 copiesPhotograph of a homa fire ceremony at night, with a square yellow-bordered fire pit blazing and smoke rising. Several priests in saffron-orange dhotis and shawls sit around the pit; one at the front wears a saffron wrap and dark-rimmed glasses and feeds sticks into the flame, another on the right wears an orange turban with a tall plume, rudraksha-style beaded garlands and gold ornaments and holds a sacred implement. Behind them, rows of seated devotees in white kurtas with red shawls and women in cream saris watch from a carpeted floor. A brass lamp and offering trays sit at the edge, and a small figure of a deity stands at the right corner.2016-02-07A photograph of a homa fire ritual inside a hall with a tiled floor covered in woven mats. A square brick fire pit with a burning flame sits in the centre. A man in an orange robe with a shawl stands at the pit, while a woman in a purple sari with a shawl nearby assists with offerings. Around them, priests in dark red and orange dhotis wear rudraksha and gold-bead necklaces, and others wear white dhotis. On the right, an ornate golden-and-red deity palanquin or altar stands with a lion figure and offering trays of lit lamps.2015-09-14February 21 20172017-02-21June 09 20092009-06-09September 14 20152015-09-14 +1 copies
