A bamboo-framed cart or vehicle with a dark tarp sits at the lower edge. No people are visible.2008-06-09A photograph of a temple entrance at dusk under a pale blue sky with wispy clouds. Red and white striped barrier poles frame the view, and a metal gate with yellow railings stands in front of a stone building. Above the entrance, a framed blue panel shows a golden-clad deity murti flanked by two white cows, with a glowing yellow lamp mounted on top. Ornamental metal grillwork with palm-like motifs decorates the roofline on the right. A partial figure in white clothing appears at the lower right edge. A small sign with Kannada-style script hangs beside the panel.2008-09-04A street procession in India with a gilded, ornately carved ratha (chariot-shrine) decorated with marigold garlands and festoons, carrying deity figures inside. Devotees crowd the road around it: men in white dhotis and shirts, a woman in a pink sari leaning on a walking stick at left, women in red and blue saris, and men in light shirts and trousers. Two framed portraits are mounted on the chariot's sides, one showing a figure in white and orange-trimmed clothing. Saffron flags fly from the structure and rose petals are scattered on the ground. Two garlanded deity figures sit inside the shrine: a figure with a white crown and a second figure with a crown and gold ornaments, both draped in flower garlands. Red flags flank the ratha. Framed portrait photos are attached to its sides, one showing a man in white headwear and dark clothing, but the figures inside are not confidently identified. Around the chariot, many people in white, yellow and everyday clothes gather, some sitting on the ground, with buses and vans parked nearby under large green trees.2006-10-26Photograph of a golden-domed temple shrine viewed from behind a tall fence of rusted metal railings topped with barbed wire and a row of white globe street lamps.
