April 23 20122012-04-23A devotee in silhouette, seen from behind, performs aarti with a multi-tiered brass lamp toward a golden shrine arch framed with red, green and purple flower garlands. Inside the arch stands a figure in yellow garments with a yellow headpiece and a flower garland, hands raised in greeting, surrounded by flames and tall brass oil lamps on both sides. Hanging lamps are visible above. The figure in the shrine appears to be a depiction or statue rather than a physical person, and the lamp-bearer is the only physical person present.2012-04-26Photograph of a temple shrine at night, with a golden ornate arch framing a seated figure dressed in yellow garments and a yellow headwrap, adorned with layered garlands in red, green and purple and a long white beaded necklace. A silhouetted devotee in the foreground, kneeling and facing the shrine, raises a multi-tiered golden lamp with lit flames. Tall brass lamps with lit wicks stand on both sides, and hanging brass lamps are visible above. The figure appears to be a central honoured figure on a shrine rather than a clearly identified person, so identity is uncertain; the golden arch and garlanded seat suggest a deity murti or honoured image in worship. Aarti is being performed.2012-04-26Photo 11731323 +1 copiesA photograph of a ritual scene in a dimly lit shrine. A standing figure dressed in an orange and green silk garment, with a gold crown and a vertical tilak, wears layered garlands of white flowers and a gold necklace, and stands inside an arch of red, yellow, purple and white flower garlands. In the foreground, a person in dark silhouette holds a tray of lit oil lamps, offering aarti before the figure. Lit oil lamps hang on the ornate silver-gilt framework behind, and a brass lamp stand stands at right. The figure's appearance is consistent with a murti or depiction rather than a clearly identified person, so the figure is described by role only.2012-04-23A photograph of a standing figure framed by a garland arch of yellow, purple, red and white flowers, with a gilded metal backdrop and small oil lamps hanging above.
