A photograph of a square fire pit built from whitewashed bricks on a tiled floor, with the interior of the pit containing reddish bricks and a few stones. Blue tarpaulin and cut-off white cloth are visible at the edges, and a partial shadow falls across the front of the structure. No people are clearly visible apart from a partially visible figure in white at the right edge and a foot at the lower left. The brickwork appears to be a prepared fire altar, consistent with a homa or yagna setup, though this is not explicitly shown.2006-10-19A square brick fire pit, built from pale whitish bricks with darker weathered tops, sits in the foreground of a dark night scene. Its hollow centre holds dim embers and small pieces of wood. Small red-orange specks dot the brick surfaces. Behind it, partly visible at the edges of the frame, are the blurred shapes of people seated on the ground, and a metal vessel rests near the upper right of the pit. The lighting is warm and low, with most of the background in shadow.2006-08-28Close view of a white brick fire altar, a homa or yagna kunda, built in stacked layers and scattered with red flower petals and small orange petals. Straw or grass strands are laid across the bricks. Brass and silver vessels, a kalasha-style pot and a small oil lamp sit on a teal cloth beside it. Wooden bowls sit in the foreground, and a richly embroidered orange-gold cloth and a wooden seat appear at upper right. No people are visible.2007-02-16A homa fire burns within a square fire pit built from white-painted bricks, with a central opening of red bricks where flames rise. Orange marigold petals are scattered across the white brick surface. At the top edge, a figure in an orange-red garment is partially visible, and brass vessels, a silver bowl and dried twigs sit on the surrounding ground. The scene is a close view of the sacred fire with no clearly visible people beyond the partially seen robed figure.2007-08-26December 17 20062006-12-17August 26 20072007-08-26A fire-altar construction of stacked white rectangular bricks decorated with orange and magenta flowers, dried grass blades and small white blossoms. A flame burns in a recessed brick fire pit at the top centre, and brass vessels and coconut shell cups sit at the upper left. No people are visible; this resembles a homa/yagna fire altar prepared for ritual use.A homa fire pit built of turmeric-coated mud bricks decorated with white kolam-style lines and yellow marigold flowers. Dry sticks are stacked in the central opening. A priest in white dhoti and a striped shawl sits behind, holding an open book, with a brass bowl of yellow liquid and a ladle at left. Silver kalasha pots and green leaves are visible at upper right. No person's face or full body is shown clearly enough to identify anyone.2011-12-28Outdoor ground-level ceremony at a construction site of dirt and bricks. A man in white dhoti and shirt bends forward with a brick in hand, a rudraksha-style mala visible at his neck. Beside him a woman in an orange-trimmed white sari and a woman in a red sari with a shawl kneel and stand around a square brick enclosure being laid out in the sand. Stacked bricks lie to the right, and white-clad onlookers and a parked car stand in the background, with a pink-shawled figure at the left edge.2006-12-22Close-up of a square fire pit built from pale brick and stone blocks, with a bright open flame burning in the centre. Scattered marigold petals and a few red flower offerings sit on the bricks, incense sticks lie across the edge, and small oil lamps glow at the lower corners. A brass vessel is visible at upper right. No people are visible; the scene suggests a homa or yagna fire ritual.2007-10-18A photograph of a ritual fire altar built from stacked white bricks decorated with yellow and orange flowers and scattered grass stalks. A man in an orange saffron robe with a rudraksha-style necklace and a patterned cylindrical cap stands at the right, holding a metal plate or ritual vessel. Several young boys in white clothes sit cross-legged behind the altar, one with a white forehead mark, some holding small items. A dim hall with white walls and a hanging orange and red cloth panel is behind them. The scene appears to be a homa or yagna at the altar.2007-10-12December 23 20102010-12-23
