Outdoor photo of a traditional Tamil musical ensemble performing on a stone-paved courtyard. Four seated musicians in white dhotis and white shirts play instruments: two play long wooden nadaswaram-style pipes, and two play drums, one a barrel drum with a red-brown wrapped body and a tavil-style drum held with sticks. Standing onlookers in white veshtis and shirts watch from behind, and a woman in a light sari stands at the upper right.2012-06-05December 23 20092009-12-23December 23 20092009-12-23September 15 20132013-09-15December 29 20102010-12-29A photograph of a temple musician ensemble performing in an indoor hall. In the foreground, a young man in a white shirt and white dhoti plays a large two-headed drum (thavil) with a red and gold trim, held at his side, looking toward the camera. Behind him, a player in a red shirt and saffron-orange dhoti with a red tilak on his forehead plays a long wind instrument (nadaswaram) with a bell-shaped end. Another drummer in white dhoti sits at left, and a man in white dhoti with a sacred thread and horizontal sacred ash marks on his forehead stands at right beside a draped red and gold cloth on a stand. Several other people in white dhotis stand in the background, some with hands joined. No a person candidate is clearly visible.2010-12-20A dirt path beside a white building with a dark green hedge behind it shows four people playing traditional instruments. On the left, a young boy in a white shirt and white dhoti, with a red cloth over his shoulder, plays a red-and-gold drum held against his hip. In the centre, a man in white shirt and dhoti with a gold-bracelet wrist plays a long wooden pipe (nadaswaram-style). On the right, a man in white shirt and dhoti holds a drum with a red shoulder cloth, and a woman in a purple sari with gold border stands behind him.2011-10-02December 11 20112011-12-11Two musicians sit on red stone steps playing traditional instruments. The man on the left wears a white dhoti and white shirt with a red tilak on his forehead and a yellow-beaded necklace, and plays a long brass horn called a nagaswaram or ekka-style wind instrument. The man on the right wears a white shirt and white dhoti with a white tilak, playing a large silver-rimmed drum with his hands. Behind them, three young people in saffron-orange robes sit on higher steps, one holding a small drum, and a potted plant row lines the steps beside a metal fence.2013-06-24September 15 20132013-09-15December 12 20112011-12-12Four young men sit cross-legged on an orange cloth in front of red and white striped walls, playing traditional percussion and wind instruments. The man in the centre wears a white shirt and white dhoti, a wristwatch and red wrist threads, and holds a dark wooden nadaswaram-style pipe across his lap while his hands rest on a small white drum. To the left, a drummer in a red shirt beats a barrel drum with a green and gold patterned cover, and another drummer in a maroon shirt sits behind. On the right, a man in a white shirt sits beside a large frame drum with metal rims and a red cloth. All wear forehead markings, and the scene suggests a musical accompaniment at an ashram or temple event.2010-07-24
