Annadhan in 2015

A photo of a communal meal service in a white-walled hall with a yellow canopy. Two men in plain white t-shirts and white trousers, wearing rudraksha malas and name badges, carry steel plates of food toward the right. Behind them, a row of chafing dishes sits on a white-draped table with yellow skirting, served by workers in white caps and hairnets. On the left, a shaved-headed man in saffron-orange robes and a rudraksha mala stands in the foreground, and two more people in orange-and-maroon sanyasi clothing with rudraksha garlands walk through the middle. Several others in white are visible in the background. Bottled water sits at the right edge. This appears to be annadan food distribution.

A crowded indoor hall with a red curtain backdrop and colourful patterned pillars. A long-haired figure in orange robes and an orange shawl sits on a white throne-like chair with white cushions, receiving a devotee. A young man in white with an orange shawl and rudraksha mala stands behind him holding a plate. Devotees in white and orange shawls gather around, including a woman in a multicoloured sari. On a white cloth in front are rudraksha malas, small booklets, framed pictures and sweets. The figure in orange has long hair and wears orange clothing with rudraksha beads, though the appearance is not clear enough to confirm identity, so the seated figure is described by role only.

A photograph of a seated devotee gathering in a bright hall with polished white floors. In the foreground, a woman in a white and blue patterned outfit with an orange-red shawl presses her palms together in anjali, and a woman in white with a red shawl sits beside her. A man in white with an orange shawl and rudraksha mala sits cross-legged on a red cushion, hands folded, with an older man in white and a small child beside him. Brass oil lamps (aarti lamps) sit on a tray at left, and banana-leaf plates of offerings line the floor at right. Behind them, rows of people in saffron and orange robes and white-clad attendants stand with folded hands, and a cameraman in white films the scene. A framed portrait hangs on the back wall beside a red and white banner.

Evening photograph under a tent with a red, green and orange striped canopy and blue pipe scaffolding. A man with long swept-back hair, a bare-chested orange-and-red ochre wrap and a rudraksha-style necklace smiles while serving food from a large steel vessel on a table. Beside him, a second man in an orange robe leans in, and to the right a young man in white holds out a plate to receive food.

A photograph of a seated man in saffron-orange robes with a white vertical tilak on his forehead, wearing a large white and orange flower garland and a gold-coloured necklace, reaching forward to place an orange cloth over the head of a kneeling devotee in white. The devotee in white dhoti kneels with palms joined in namaste. Behind them, several women in white saris with gold borders and red-orange garlands stand in a row on a red carpet, with a standing fan and red velvet drapes in the room.

A covered serving line of stainless steel food trays along a red-walled corridor, where volunteers serve free meals to devotees at an ashram annadan. Several women in white saris with yellow borders serve food, wearing hairnets, plastic gloves and rudraksha-style beaded necklaces; one in an orange blouse ladles food. A woman in a yellow blouse and white sari with a long braid holds a steel plate and receives food. Others queue behind a wire mesh fence beside green plants.

Photograph of a large indoor ritual meal or annadan-style gathering in a hall with a stage screen. Rows of seated men and women sit on a floor covered with a long grey mat, many bare-chested men in white dhotis with rudraksha malas and sandalwood marks, others in orange robes. Brass plates and small lamps sit before them, and people in white and orange serve food. A large projected portrait of a bearded man with a tilaka-marked forehead hangs at upper right, and a smaller screen shows a speaker. A trident stands near the back wall, and a camera on a tripod records the scene. Approximately dozens of people are visible.
