September 2006 - Sindhanur flood relief

An outdoor photo of a flood relief gathering on a dusty open field with green crops and a power pylon in the background. In the foreground a seated man in a white shirt and white dhoti sits with his head bowed, his face and head covered by a white cloth, while a standing man in white shirt and dhoti gestures with one hand, and a man on the left wearing a white shirt and a blue lanyard listens. Several villagers stand behind, including a man in an orange and white striped shirt raising an arm and a man in a dark striped shirt holding a phone. Plastic chairs and a blue folder are visible, and pink cloth hangs from above.

A large crowd of men and women in white shirts, white dhotis and sarees gathers under a thatched bamboo pavilion decorated with metallic tinsel streamers in pink, blue and silver. A tall decorated pillar painted with red, yellow and blue geometric patterns stands in the centre. On the right, a figure with long dark hair, wearing a saffron-orange shawl and orange robe with rudraksha mala beads and a saffron head wrap, sits in a white chair; this appearance is consistent with a person presence, shown seated among devotees at the Pattanam inauguration. Banana trees and white buildings are visible beyond the pavilion.

Outdoor relief gathering under a red and maroon patterned canopy in flat green fields, with a blue tarpaulin behind. Many villagers, mostly men in white shirts and dhotis, sit cross-legged on the ground in dense rows. Standing at right, a man in a white checked shirt and white dhoti is positioned among other standing men in white and blue shirts, one wearing a white shirt and trousers and another a blue-grey shirt. A standing man in a red shirt and a woman in a white sari stand at left near a tractor-like vehicle. The scene appears to be a flood relief distribution, with a crowd gathered under a tent.

A crowded outdoor scene under a corrugated metal roof, with banana leaves and tied banana stalks forming a decorated canopy. A large crowd of mostly men presses inward; many wear white shirts and white dhotis, some in colourful shirts and checked lungis. A man in the foreground holds up a DSLR camera with flash, and others raise mobile phones to photograph a central area where a garlanded figure is surrounded by pink and white floral garlands. Orange and saffron clothing is visible among the crowd. The scene suggests a devotee gathering around a visiting spiritual figure, but no individual is clearly identifiable.

A crowded photograph inside a thatched-roof open shelter with bamboo rafters and palm-thatch walls. A long-haired figure in a saffron-orange garment and rudraksha-style beads stands at centre, facing a group. Around them, men in white shirts with saffron-orange shawls press close, one man in a white shirt with orange shawl holds his hands together in namaskar. A cameraman in a white shirt raises a video camera overhead. Behind them, framed photographs and printed panels hang on the walls, and a man in a light yellow shirt stands at the right edge. Many onlookers fill the foreground and background.

A photograph taken under a corrugated metal shed with bamboo poles at an outdoor gathering. In the foreground a seated figure in an orange-saffron robe with a white and red flower garland sits on a folding chair, with their back partly toward the camera; the figure has long dark hair and a swept-back appearance, and the cues are distinctive enough to be an appearance-based probable identification as a person. Around them, standing devotees include a woman in a white sari with a braid, a woman in a green and dark patterned sari, a woman in a blue top, a man in a white shirt and white dhoti-style trousers, a young man in white, and several children in shirts. A white-clad seated person is partly visible in front. Behind, colourful fabric and a kalasha-like decoration hang near the canopy.

A photograph of a crowd gathered under a covered veranda with green-painted walls and a palm tree visible outside. In the centre, a figure in orange robes stands among several people in orange and saffron clothing, some bending forward as if giving or receiving something. Around them, many men in white shirts and white dhotis, women in saris and salwar, and children press close, several raising mobile phones to photograph the scene. A partly visible orange banner hangs on the back wall behind the group.
