September 28 20082008-09-28September 28 20082008-09-28A night-time outdoor scene at a cremation site with reddish-brown earth. A woman in orange robes with long dark hair bends forward over a body wrapped in cloth and covered with garlands of yellow and orange marigolds, white flowers, and pink blossoms, with straw laid beneath. She sprinkles or offers something from her hand toward the garlanded figure. Around her, a crowd of men in white dhotis and white shirts stand watching, some with hands folded in reverence, and an older bare-chested man in a white dhoti stands at the right. Scattered flowers, leaves and small offerings lie on the ground.2011-01-14Night-time outdoor photo of a devotional gathering under a canopy with blue and gold edging. A central figure sits on a low wicker seat facing a framed deity image on a draped table, with fruit, flowers and a brass vessel placed before it. The seated figure wears an orange saffron cloth and a white flower garland, with a bald or closely shaved head. Around them, devotees in white dhotis and shirts sit on red and white striped mats, many with palms pressed together in namaskar. Women in white saris stand and kneel at the left, and additional men stand at the right. A light-coloured cloth-wrapped figure sits to the right side. The scene looks like a puja or satsang.2007-08-17Night outdoor photograph of a funeral-style rite beside a pyre-like mound of straw and firewood. Around them men in white shirts, white dhotis and checked lungis stand watching, one holding a large round umbrella. Devotees in white shirts and dhotis, one in a white sash, and women in white saris stand with palms pressed together.
