A cow with a brown coat, garlanded horns and yellow and white flower decorations stands on a sand-coloured platform while a white-clad older man holds its head. Behind them, devotees in saffron and orange robes with rudraksha malas stand with hands joined and some carry brass trays with offerings. On the right, a bare-chested man in brown cloth wears a long white flower garland and has long dark hair, with an ornamented figure beside him in an orange robe and white head cloth. A striped mat covers the ground and a crowd stands behind in the dark.2018-01-15September 26 20162016-09-26Night-time photograph of a Mattu Pongal ritual at an outdoor ashram setting with a striped mat on the ground. A brown cow with garlands of yellow and white flowers and a red-marked forehead stands at centre beside a small calf. Several young men in saffron-orange robes and rudraksha malas hold brass plates with flowers, fruit and offerings, and one bearded man in saffron stands prominently holding a plate with a flame. Behind them a crowd of devotees in white dhotis and saffron cloth press their palms together in namaskar. A woman with long braided hair wearing a pink-and-white flower garland faces away in the foreground.2018-01-15Outdoor photo of a large black stone Nandi bull statue seated on a grey pedestal at the foot of red-tiered steps, draped with a marigold and yellow flower garland. Many devotees sit on the steps behind it, some bare-chested or in white dhotis, many holding long brass horns or conch-like instruments to their lips, while others sit with brass vessels and pots nearby. Tall red flags on poles and a chain-link fence line the stairs, with trees behind. A bare-chested man in white dhoti with a sacred thread stands near the bull holding a brass vessel, and a woman in a pink sari sits at the right. Brass kalasha-type pots and bowls sit on the steps. This appears to be an outdoor puja gathering.2016-12-18A dense crowd of devotees stands in a red-draped hall before an ornate golden shrine with a deity murti. Many participants wear black blindfolds over their eyes and stand with heads bowed in meditation or darshan. Men wear white and cream kurtas and shirts, while others wear saffron, orange and gold tones. In the foreground an elderly bearded man in an orange-striped shawl and rudraksha mala is blindfolded, beside a bald man in white. Coloured lights and banners fill the background. This is a crowd scene from a Guinness record attempt for a large OM formation.2017-12-16
