Photograph of a richly painted temple gopuram-style facade in Tamil Nadu, decorated with colourful sculpted deity and attendant figures along its top. A framed painting on the facade shows a blue-skinned deity with a third eye and a consort with a crescent-topped crown, both with raised hands. A large banana-leaf arch with tender green stalks and leaves stands in front, and foliage hangs down the facade. Several people are gathered in the foreground, including a woman in a dark sari near the arch, and a young man at the left edge. Yellow signboards show Tamil text beneath the painting.

A photograph of a colourfully painted temple gopuram facade in Tamil Nadu at dusk, with a tall banana-leaf and palm-frond arch framing the entrance. Painted figures and sculptures in red, green, blue and gold crowd the tiered tower, and a deep-yellow banner with Tamil lettering hangs on the front. A crowd of devotees, many women in orange and yellow saris and men in white shirts, stands and moves near the doorway, with one lit flame glowing at the threshold. An orange flag stands at the right edge beside a painted guardian figure.

A dense outdoor crowd gathers in front of an ornately decorated temple facade at dusk, the gateway hung with banana-leaf arches and green garlands. Painted panels above show a deity image of Shiva and Parvati and a gold-framed scene. In the foreground, men in white shirts and a woman in a purple sari with a flower in her hair stand close together, some holding folded papers. Further back, a figure in white stands on a raised platform beside a framed portrait of a bearded person wearing a white head covering, with saffron flags nearby. Thatched sheds and bamboo poles frame the scene.

Crowded outdoor temple scene at dusk in Tamil Nadu. A decorated temple gateway with painted colourful sculptures on its roof is framed by two tall banana trees with leaves. A yellow signboard with Tamil script hangs above the entrance. Many devotees in white shirts, saffron and green saris, and white dhotis press around the doorway; a bare-headed elderly man with a white beard and white clothes stands near the front. Orange flags hang at the right edge. No identifiable central figure is clearly visible, so no a person candidate is marked.

A dense crowd of devotees stands inside a colourfully painted temple hall with blue pillars, white elephant friezes and painted panels across the ceiling. Most people wear white or pastel clothing, many women in saris, and a few men have tilak marks on their foreheads. In the centre, a person in white stands near a brightly lit inner shrine with a golden doorway and lamps. The scene suggests a temple gathering or darshan.

Night photograph of the entrance to a South Indian Hindu temple, the Sri Kumaran Kovil, whose painted gopuram-style gateway above shows colourful deity sculptures including an elephant-headed figure and a peacock-adorned niche. Banana plants with broad leaves flank the doorway, and a sign in Tamil reads Sri Kumara Kovil. Several men in white dhotis and shirts and a woman in a maroon sari stand on the forecourt, some looking toward the inner hall where lit chandeliers and a row of painted deity figures are visible. Sandals are left on the floor near the steps. The man in a pink striped shirt and white trousers stands in the foreground facing the gate.

A printed banner above the entrance reads a Tamil dedication to Arulmigu Mangalaiyamman Thirukkoyil. Standing female figures in green and red flank the doorway. To the right a black board carries a yellow poster with a small photo of a bald man in white, with Tamil text. In the foreground a crowd of about ten people sits and stands, including older women in saris, a woman in blue, and men in shirts. No deity is named in this frame beyond the temple banner.

A crowded temple procession moves through a gateway with painted pillars and sculpted figures on the rooftop. Banana plants flank the entrance. At centre, a large ornate processional vehicle carries a decorated deity murti beneath a red and gold radiating halo, with a bull figure in front. Dense crowds surround it: men in white dhotis and a man in a white turban, women in saris, and uniformed police near the vehicle. A yellow vehicle sits at left beside a banner.
